they certainly manipulated Bill to an extent especially considering his age but at the same time he seemed to show a lot of sociopathic tendencies...like he legit believed he was a benefit to the cause while also being its downfall...you see it in that real life interview clip where he's trying to defend his bullshit as "well at least I did SOMETHING"...all those little moments where he talks big and then scoffs and laughs it off when he's away from the others...the way he acted in the fancy restaurant...at the same time it obviously ate away at him...either that or dude just wasn't well mentally bc he killed himself right after doing that interview...you can see the shame in his eyes even if his words are defending what he did

He wasn’t a rat because that term applies to street niggas or gang affiliates, he was never affiliated with them to begin with and was doing his own thing to make sure he was straight. If I got into some s*** and had a choice between life in prison or infiltrating a group to get the FBI Intel, then I’m obviously taking that other option, and I don’t give a s*** what they got going on over there. Now clearly he didn’t mean for anything like this to happen, he tried to get out of it multiple times, he showed plenty of remorse, but stay stuck in your corny ass mentality that he’s some evil person when he was a child caught up in some s***. Great movie man. Happy they didn't tame it too much especially with his speeches. Wish we got more of a background to COINTELPRO. They tried a but with that one Hoover scene where he's looking over the photos but was hoping to see the specific system called out cus Hampton's murder wasn't an isolated incident. That's the focus not anger for O'Neil

Loved Kaluuya and Stanfield but part of me wishes they sold off how young these guys were too. We talking 21 and 19 and it didn't feel that way til we were literally told at the end. Amazing performances tho

its easy to get mad at O'Neil but the way that system Hoover had running...if it wasn't Bill it was going to be another black teen. Hoover was getting his way. All those BPP chapters had informants

definitely...Bill fit the profile they were looking for and I'm sure there were countless others that fit it just as well (the scene with the pimp giving him the d*** kinda backs that up and how he was fooled by him at first)...that being said Bill still seemed to take more enjoyment in it than he should have at times and really only seemed to feel remorse towards the end because even he couldn't understand or justify killing Fred...yet he still actively plays a part in it...not only giving them the layout of his place but actually d***ging dude so he can't even attempt to defend himself or get away...it's disgusting and not something I can excuse with "well he was young"

This same rhetoric is still used to kill Black men to this day, and is exactly why I’m not going to jump onto the hate bandwagon. Every 17 year old I know even now is stupid as f***, regardless of race, but this is a very specific issue with Black youth so no, it is definitely grounds to be excusable due to his age, as well as environment and who even knows the educational background he had.

This isn’t a one dimensional situation where he’s just the bad person and that’s it, the same issues that people talk about today have been trickling down since before he was even born. Y’all think he was just gonna serve 5 years fed time? When people in this movie literally were killed in police custody? He was almost definitely going to die before seeing that time.

Defending him takes nothing away from Fred, Fred was basically a kid too, as far as I’m concerned, but at the end of the day he militarized groups of people to take on political forces, he was dying one way or another and someone else would’ve just been in bill’s shoes if not him.
