i definitely understand that, Kelvin Harrison Jr would have honestly been great for a Fred fiilm if he gained more weight and they didn't give him that awful afro job lmao. seeing the end credits definitely hit but then you'd just associate the tragedy of age with death instead of the life he lived its not as impactful
I feel that...a reference or two to their ages throughout the film wouldn't have hurt nothing
Lil Rel looked like Black Thought's character in The Deuce lol he killed it though
Lol a month and a half in
I’m talking about 2020 too lol
I guess I was thinking in terms of the awards cycle, this should win some categories for sure
I’m thankful they didn’t ruin the atmosphere of this movie by trying to score it with Cardi b or some s*** I literally can’t stand when niggas do that
More than helped it was their idea. They are the ones who wrote the treatment and pitched Shaka on it
Wow that’s crazy
Their cartoon was so fire😂
love the soundtrack but also feel like Dead Prez "Let's Get Free" album could be a substitute lol
so horrifying that last scene knowing it was a real thing. like, i’ve read so much about it and knew exactly what happened but it is still rattling seeing it play out. it’s important that they made it into something less interested people might actually consume
thought the film was great, wish they acknowledged hampton and bill's age more, lakeith and daniel casting aged those two characters up
yeah this is my biggest complaint. I knew nothing about this story before seeing the film, and I thought it was pretty well done, great in some scenes.
The performances were really solid but once I found out how old they were in real life at the end it changed the movie for me. Daniel especially was way too f***ing old for this movie. They should have cast young men in these roles.
William O'Neal. Trash ass nigga.
Black actors? That’s a hot take
Nigga said actors, you said black
Nigga said actors, you said black
I’m assuming he meant black because they’re definitely not the best actors in general of this generation imo
Bill ain’t have nothing to do with that s*** tho so it’s not his fault he was a regular ass dude lol
He was not regular dude, he was an informant
yeah this is my biggest complaint. I knew nothing about this story before seeing the film, and I thought it was pretty well done, great in some scenes.

It’s a cinematic take on the actual events So you have to expect liberties to be taken. The Lucas Bros stated they wanted Lakeith to play will from the moment they solidified the idea. That alone already creates the dilemma of having to “age” up the characters. Also, keep in mind, this film DOES NOT happen without the blessing of the family whom all involved had to meet before they did anything nor was this the first time they’ve been approached. So if they had no problem with it, I don’t see any reason why any of us should. To be honest, it makes the film THAT much more potent and its emotional weight that much more heavy. Because they never explicitly state how old everyone is in the film, as a viewer, you yourself naturally assume that no matter what it is they’re during, they’re at least “of age” to be doing so. It isn’t until afterwards when it’s revealed how young he actually was does it hit you that you really weren’t even thinking about this as you were watching. The scene with will in the beginning attempting to steal a car, his interrogation, his secret meetings, Chairman Fred meeting with gang leaders and young Patriots to organize, his willingness to sacrifice his life for his cause, his brutal assassination. It suddenly all becomes more solid as you think it over. Quality wasn’t sacrificed for age, age was sacrificed for quality. Maybe they’re some younger guys out there who could of more accurately portrayed these figures in terms of that. We’ll never know. What I do know is there’s a reason these guys were casted and a reason why their age weren’t revealed until the end because the emotional reaction you are having to the fact that Chairman Fred was only 21 when he nearly fundamentally changed the social fabric of a city, and subsequently a country, is THE EXACT reaction they want you to have.

Didn’t even realize that was him until he stood up and walked over to Lakeith lol.

I feel like it would be really difficult to find like 16-21 year olds who could have portrayed with the same level of gravitas that Kaluuya and Stanfield had
Enjoyed this a lot. When this was announced I was worried they would pull back from Fred’s socialist views but was impressed that they didn’t hold back in the film.
Apart from the amazing acting, filmography and score. The costume department and hair/makeup department killed it. I’m usually picky when films tackle a period and no one looks the part of the era. But they nailed it, even when I seen Tracy from Atlanta I can look past that and fully see he was portraying someone from the 60s.

The score for the movie was unreal, the little jazz cue that plays when Bill is being sneaky mofo
Pretty good adaptation though it still can’t help feeling like a Wikipedia biopic a number of times
Still, I do like that they told a pretty humanizing story here and one that respected the authenticity of the subject and it’s characters
I’m talking about 2020 too lol

The cutoff for the Oscar's this year is late February, so it'll be interesting to see if it gets any buzz

What young actor that is that age has the skill to pull of this performance?
