  • This whole thing with SAILORR thing to me has been echoing the same sentiments that Tommy Richman was dealing with not too long ago.

Makes me wonder if this will continue to a be a reoccurring phenomena: Where people misguidedly place otherwise justly and well-intended criticisms onto artist despite said critiques not actually being applicable to them.

Can y'all think of any other examples of this?

Also, I just coined this term, so if you see it being used of here you know where they got it from...

People were mad at Tommy Richman because he tried to take him out of hip hop like his music wasn’t heavily influenced by it. Those criticisms were justified as he quite literally said that himself and I say that as someone that likes his music

People were already calling him a vulture before he even made that comment. And I recall him saying that was taken grossly out of context, unless I'm missing something here.

His back catalog is composed of more than just Hip Hop. Most people who running with the vulture narrative at the time were basing their perception of him off of one song.

I mean yeah but that comes with the territory about being white in a predominantly black space. I don’t think anyone had a real issue with him aside from people just talking s*** or looking for a problem with him. I mean the tweet is still up surprisingly so it’s hard to take it out of context when it’s all there from him

Alright then, so the term and my explanation behind it applies.

This is what is happening to SAILORR right now sans tone deaf response (as of me making this post at least).

I don’t disagree with you. I’m just saying having criticisms that may not be accurate to the individual have existed well before the two examples you mentioned and will continue to happen and it’s not even exclusive to hip hop or music in general. Is it fair? I don’t think so. My philosophy however is if it don’t apply let it fly. I see what you’re saying though

The tweet didn’t say rapper though. His music is undoubtedly influenced by hip hop which is fine and if he feels like he’s not hip hop that’s fine but he’s smart enough to know how people were going to take that even if that’s not what he meant.

it’s not a narrative, the songs he keeps using to trend are hiphop but the project he displayed isn’t

I never took million dollar baby as a hip hop song like that. It’s got rap drums and a three 6 sample but he’s singing not rapping, Issa pop song to me
Most of his songs aren’t hip hop. He’s a singer that uses hip hop beats sometimes. His tape had multiple songs that’s also did that
He’s always been a singer that does dif genres

and anyone who dabbles while at the same time confidently stating they are not what they are dabbling into will always be labeled a culture vulture, that’s it lmao.

he shoulda stayed off twitter instead of getting triggered about a subject he knows better than to comment on or about with blanket statements as a white boy making music inspired by hiphop

“The songs he keeps using to trend” and it’s just music he’s made
He’s always made a mix of dif genres, look at his 2022 project it’s full of rap drums too
