B****hhhh I’m not talking about the western part of the entire world
I know but as a region the West is too vast. It's from Washington to Colorado, it's literally such a large region of people who have similar cultures and sounds
Tbh, the sound of the West is Midwest niggas and Mexicans
The problem is it didn’t just become the poppin sound in hip hop
It became the poppin sound for the whole world. That’s why pop and country songs got f***ing trap drums
I feel like an old head but I’m genuinely so sick of generic trap drums id be good if I never heard them again
Yeah once the trap wave really started to take over in the early 2010s, it was a wrap. That s*** had everyone in a chokehold. It was the sweetest ear candy for the kids.
Powerballing balling too hard?
My brother in Christ please chill out, because this is insane
Hey SKSKSKSKSKIDADDLE
I HEARD YOU LIKE TO TRAVEL

West takes more influence from funk and the east coast take more influence from Jazz
I mean I hate hyperbole in all of art from "why cant this game be more like the last of us " to "twin peaks is the origin of tv" to "this isnt mcu " all of the monolithic view of art often leads people to refusing to watch something that could be their favorite piece of art
as an art student and artist for life I am just like f*** it enjoy a bit of everything. I watched Wicked and that s*** fire
there are some who like "musical yeah out"
its like why limit yourself from possibly finding s*** that changes your life, inspires you to create dope art or helps you wriite
S*** I love Adele sometimes i would be playing Adele when doing uber lyft and they would be like "I wouldnt take you for an adele fan"
its like when you limit yourself and create limits on others you do a disservice to yourself and us all
there are musicals that I do like (once on this island, wiz, mamma mia only if cause it's really musical maury and cause meryl streep to this day can *insertnaughtywordshere* ) but musicals growing up to me has always been cringe.
Plus grease and little mermaid I could write dissertations on how those 2 are some of the most harmful forms of media in any medium of the last few decades.
but people should definitely be open to different things. That's why I never understood the hate on country music but also, being from Georgia that was something that was played lol.
I think it also doesn't help as black folks we drink the kool aid that "oh that s*** is white" when we literally created everything. It's black people that swear they rock fans that never heard of Fishbone or Death.
West takes more influence from funk and the east coast take more influence from Jazz
Funk is Ohio and Michigan
Digable Planets love is real
I grew up on Blowout Comb man this album is a legitimate piece of childhood lol.
Hey SKSKSKSKSKIDADDLE
I HEARD YOU LIKE TO TRAVEL
shoutout to tisakorean bringing the feeling back

I actually really liked this album lol.
ATL dominated for years but I think people got tired of the sound. I see a lot more love for the west coast sound and the dark Memphis sound
My god, if that Memphis sound takes off again
most people dont care about music like that - well, moreso how they articulate it
doesnt mean its a bad thing tho lol - and its kinda wild how the convo flipped from mmbs "no one likes this nigga" to now "everyone just d rides him no matter what" as if the mmbs "discourse" didnt happen
that s*** is just as dumb
lol then a music focused forum isnt for them. Then I will always appear "schizo" to them because I grew up with a single mom and art f***ing raised me cause she would be at work from anime, to music to cartoons to everything else without art I would not have a formulation for a soul or how best to move in this world. Eventually gaining street smarts. For some of them its just background noise. Which is PERFECTLY FINE PERFECTLY FINE I GOT NO ISSUE WITH IT
I got no issue with art being an after thought them never purchasing an album. Them never touching a cd, vinyl, seeing a live show or crying to music or at a live show. The issue is when they speak on people tthat are that invested in art on an art forum like they are crazy.
I remember being on dial up. S*** I remember playing a youtube video and trying to get my friend to hear it over the phone. They have so much access to information and music instantly. It used to take 5 minutes to an hour to download all the music I wanted. Now in 23 hours we will have new music that is available instantly and if it is actually 16 minutes late as that 23 hours would be its "omg its not dropping flop this artist sucks lame not gioing to get a billion streams"
its a level of entitlement to an artist craft when I used to be hyped to drive to best buy, fye, circuit city to buy a paper trail or blueprint 3 or the cool
they dont understand when it used to be like "oh s*** I just got to keep listening to this and rapping to myself til the artist comes to town"
they dont really grasp only hearing from artist on MTV, magazines and not infiintie access to these people
so yes at times it is dystopian to see them be liike "KENDRICK TOOK 3 YEARS OFF OF PLEASING ME FOR A FRCTION OF A PENNY HE IS WASHED"
"A CONCEPT ALBUM ABOUT THERAPY HE IS WASHED "
As well as all these things
If someone doesnt have art they consume that moves them, they dont create art, they have no religion, they have no sense of community or habits what do they have?
Seriously. 2000s was insane
East you had Hov, Nas, Dipset, G Unit, Wu Tang was still around, D-Block, and more
West - Snoop, Dre, and more holding it down
Midwest - Common, Lupe, Ye, Em, Twista, Bone Thugs and them. Nelly too.
The south is obvious with T.I., Luda, Wayne, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, UGK, and more
It was such a fun time to be a hip hop fan
My god, if that Memphis sound takes off again
what I tell you bout Billboard a few weeks ago. That Memphis sound doing aight

The problem is it didn’t just become the poppin sound in hip hop
It became the poppin sound for the whole world. That’s why pop and country songs got f***ing trap drums
I feel like an old head but I’m genuinely so sick of generic trap drums id be good if I never heard them again
If you think about it, that's how the term "woke" was b******ized. There's a common denominator in all of this
Yeah once the trap wave really started to take over in the early 2010s, it was a wrap. That s*** had everyone in a chokehold. It was the sweetest ear candy for the kids.
S*** just needs to end already
Honestly I wouldn’t mind some here and there, Especially if they’re being used creatively. Like early Wondagurl beats
But producers just been using the same drum kit since like 2016 with slight variations. I’m telling y’all internet money cooked hip hop production
there are musicals that I do like (once on this island, wiz, mamma mia only if cause it's really musical maury and cause meryl streep to this day can *insertnaughtywordshere* ) but musicals growing up to me has always been cringe.

Country music I never think to go to play as much as folk. I like some of it but its really difficult to be in mood but I do think there is a benefit to listening to new music thats why I told him listen to more rap. Sometimes if I am liike "yeah I am just pressing play on type s*** over and over this isntn good for mental I am too hyphy " I change songs , change genres, mix in flylo doodle something mix in kaytranada
music can affect mood so if you constantly are immersing yourself in music from two niggas beefing how is that healthy long term when its not your beef
If you think about it, that's how the term "woke" was b******ized. There's a common denominator in all of this
They ruined the word woke lmaoooo

So many it’s hard to even keep track of it all lol you also had peeps like Fabulous, the Lox, busts rhymes the list goes on and on
Imagine a source or xxl magazine now there wouldn’t be s*** to talk about or reviewfor about 7 to 8 months outta 12 lmao

most likely Jean Dawson

D-Block and LOX essentially the same group but yea I feel you.
Mind you we’ve only talked about the mainstream acts of that era too lmaoo
I mean I think that is also part of what annoys me. Kendrick has more creative freedom than most rappers entire careers so a lot of the "why cant they be more like Kendrick" is often hampered by a record exec, label, budget and so many other factors. Even if their mixtapes, loosies, interviews are one way they have to drop what they got to drop to move units and make money
the amount of cancelled albums, projects, songs and so much more because a white record exec is like "fuck all that I am trying to make money say nigga s***" only for Kendrick to turn around and say "watch the party die"
when often them entertaining the party is possibly what frees their family from poverty . Dolph, Takeoff, Pop Smoke, Future , FBG Duck, Von , Chief keef and many more. Like even if it took me a little on the drill artist . The idea that everyone should aspire to be kendrick lamar is the same as my least favorite article in chicago
https://www.chicagotribune.com/2017/07/03/chance-reminds-us-black-boys-are-worth-fighting-for/

"There is little, if anything, we can do about family situations that are imperfect. But that doesn’t mean we should give up on the kids whose parents are less than ideal.
Chance represents so many young men in Chicago who are nearly bursting at the seams with fresh ideas and the smarts to make them happen. All they need is an opportunity.
If we look closely, we can see Chance in the faces of the bucket boys sitting on the 87th Street exit ramp off the Dan Ryan Expressway, creating beautiful drumbeats on white buckets held between their knees.
We can see Chance in the street dancers who travel from disadvantaged neighborhoods to earn money performing on Michigan Avenue.
There are young Chance the Rappers all over Chicago. They could soar too, if only they had the chance."
I know chances people but I detest this article
cause its like let each human be a human being they do the same with kendrick
"Kendrick reminds us black men are worthwhile" feels like an article a craquer would love to type
this is half true and half bullshit
lets not forget kendrick is actually making money more than all of them besides drake, and then some years travis scott
and lets not forget kendrick's label was literally a local no name INDIE record label that moved up the mud together at their own pace while eating all the loss and hardship. does no one remember that sxn 80 sold like 40k fw in its debut year? lol. and he's been working and rapping the same way since klep. have you heard or listened to klep ever or lately? its some of his most "preachy" lyrics in his whole career trying to figure it out. and aftermath didnt come into the picture till halfway of s80s creation, the budget was nothing, and aftermath wasnt fully working with him until gkmc when everything was final.
also lets not forget this is all in a time west coast music wasnt mainstream popular nor profitable lol.
also, isk why this type of convo always ends up as a diss to the artist - kendrick didnt say everyone has to be like him, and he supports and collab literally the music youre talking about. he's just doing what he's doing at the end of the day. and his music is also west coast drenched which west has always had a balanced of "real rap" and "fuck around/street/party" rap. and he literally does both on all his albums and tapes. this is west coas music. sucks to suck if you dont like it or feel left out. thats your issue.
and also who gives a f***. articles and s*** did the same to kanye, they did the same to andre, they did the same to lupe etc. of making them the "golden child example" when they literally didnt ask or pose like that.
and the contract and label you ultimately sign is up to you. it all has its up and downs. can be kendrick/tde that had to do tour in a minivan for nearly a decade sticking them to themselves in a time the mainstream ignored westcoast music and them getting it out the mud, that then happened to work out in the end for them thankfuly. which they were close to losing everything lol.
or you can take the average path where you end up in a middle of the pack label with a middle of the pack contract with middle of the pack label attention, but you get your money upfront and your music boosted "instantly".
there are give and takes in it all.
theres a lot of history youre skipping over and nuance lol.

Only Country in tryna listen to

Get off on this, just came to my mind
The Lucifer arc is interesting but with reincarnated I wonder if it’s tongue in cheek based on the context of the song since someone else literally reincarnated themselves as that artist, i.e. playing God which is what someone saying they are rewriting the devil story would be doing as this is a direct contradiction to God’s message
I’ll share my interpretation connecting the Lucifer arc and the reincarnation theme. In Kendrick’s rewriting of the story, God casts Lucifer down to Earth and continuously reincarnates until he’s found himself spiritually on an even understanding with God. A story of redemption I guess
In the final verse of reincarnated:
“My present life is Kendrick Lamar”
“Every individual is only a version of you”
Reinforcing the reincarnation continuity. Verse 1 and 2 are previous lives of the same soul
“You fell out of Heaven 'cause you was anxious
Didn't like authority, only searched to be heinous”
“My greatest music director was you” religious scholars believe Lucifer was the lead of the heavenly choir
I can go on further but da post is long af already
