if said person was running it like he wished, he wouldnt be saying this - strikes me as bitterness because we're still getting great projects and statistically its at the highest consumption

There were great album dropping when Nas said in 06.. but just like 06 there are some real issues in hip hop that should be addressed. Niggas complain about “gatekeepers” but we are so far gone where there is a growing demo in hip hop that value what was once considered quality hip hop for “fast food music”.

Niggas straight up tellin you they don’t give a bout hip hop music and look at it simply a platform to get money and clout. The labels are finding new ways to exploit and manipulate artists, and the media for the most part follows the money as they try and stay afloat amongst the changes in media.

It’s been 5 years at least. The 2020s is the first decade without a classic hip hop album

  • Jul 13, 2025

But I agree I don’t think Hip Hop has did because it’s still amazing talent and dope s*** releasing every day every year. Creators gon create. I just think leaning on what the genre does commercially isn’t the best metric on the state of the genre. It’s two sided coin.

remember what afrika bambataa said in the 1980s, the 5 pillars of hip hop are:
    1. vibes
    2. aura
    3. rizz
    4. motion
    5. adlibs
    we're doing fine
