@proper @Ava_Yeezy @atthepyramids yall going again? Pull up
Been thinking about this all week and this might be my personal favorite film of his . The constant invincible wall that separated the two was a character in itself . Throughout the entirety of it I just felt uncomfortable and uneasy from the amount of anti chemistry they had but that felt purposeful in the performances . This movie was very specific to the experience of being a gay man and the unspoken obstacles that come with it . It’s hard enough finding someone that you can connect with but when you add the complexities of internalized homophobia and the unwillingness to be vulnerable you have an issue that’s deeper than words.

I was confused by a lot of them s***s
this was such a needle drop holy s***
Loved that scene
Damn
This was good
Incredibly strong first and second act
Third act lost me somewhat but the epilogue really brought it home. Loved the surreal imagery
Soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous. Sweet natured and animalistic, matches the scenes perfectly. Reminded me a lot of We Are Who We Are
This literally how I feel. Film was very very close to being a masterpiece but it lowkey lost me in the 3rd act.
And if it’s worth anything this is coming from a straight male so no biases or anything just appreciation for a really good story
The plotless structure worked for me, this served great as a character study. But yeah Chapter 3 was shaky.

I think what it might be is cause the first two acts are on a level of reality, really only showcasing surreal scenes through the dream sequences. Whereas the third act the surreal aspect seeps into the “real world”. I think on second watch it might be easier to see it’s intention but it felt jarring on first watch. I loved every moment of the epilogue though, and even appreciate the surreal moments in the third act in concept

I think I more so got confused by Drew’s character? It seemed like he was doing the whole playing hard to get in the first 2 acts and then all sudden he’s just folllowing along in the jungle mute af just kinda there
I bought the book and also Junkie. I’m curious to see how the original material got translated
movie didn’t feel as long/slow on second watch but theater exp was much worse. group of 6 young ppl constantly whispering and giggling anytime some gay s*** was on screen “this is so weird omg” during bj scenes
also elderly dude in my row fell asleep 20min in and was snoring like crazy lmfso

Some old dude at my theater kept staring at me like how Daniel stared at Drew

I think he was alone in an even more foreign place and he saw on the trip he was safe with Lee so they naturally grew closer. Think it was meant to see that with the trip he gradually let his guard down and they connected on a deep level leading to the shared trip/dance. Only in the morning did he realize how far it’d gone, and he dipped quick cause he was scared to actually be “queer”

Bro didn’t hesitate to suck some d***, he definitely Queer
But yeah I’d be cool with an extra 15 minutes just fleshing out that dynamic a bit more.
I know the original cut was like 3 hours? I’d love to see that version

He definitely was but he was severely closeted
Even in times now where it’s the most accepting to be out it’s ever been, there’s still people like him out there
thought it was brilliant to showcase that type of dynamic. Feels strangely unexplored as far as gay cinema
