The opposite of an exponent
this guy really spent his whole life calculating logarithms for every single number

Literally responsible for like 90% of math lmao
Logarithms are used to basically plot or understand the relationship between variables as a function of orders of magnitude instead of a linear equation which assumes variables scale at a constant rate.
Often times its just thrown into equations so that numbers dont explode to infinity or near zero
Exponential functions especially are in like damn near every statistics equation
