at least this movies reviews dispelled the marvel pays for RT score narrative
thank you chloe for that one
As for the reviews affecting box office; on one hand, we as film nerds definitely underestimate how much the GP goes by reviews (understandably so, they don’t wanna waste their money and don’t have the “I’m above reviews” pride that cinephiles have)
On the other hand, if a movie grabs the interest of the GP strongly enough then that will trump reviews (as was the case for Suicide Squad in 2016 or Venom in 2018). If Eternals hype was negatively affected by reviews (which it kinda looks that way), then it would simply be a case if the film not grabbing the interest of the GP enough to trump the effects of bad reviews
very much agreed, i think when the general population not even discussing this movie enough as is, makes the bad reviews end up being the most vocal source of this movies likeness, vs something like venom being more of a peer recommendation
Updated MCU Tier List w/ Eternals added.
I think that’s a fair placement based off my first watch
Reactions should be coming ITT within the hour
Just saw. 7.5/10 on first watch. Loved the cinematography, acting. Felt the pacing was off, but that post credits scene

jus kno with that post credits scene 👀 so excited tbh
Alright non spoiler review. Just so y’all know where I’m coming from I’m a fan of MCU but not infatuated to the point where I eat up anything they put out. Ragnarok and black panther didn’t do it for me. Winter soldier and infinity war did.
This movie had a lot on its plate especially for people like me. Cus idk anything about the eternals so it had to introduce all these new people, characterize them, set up the conflict, then resolve everything in 2.5 hours.
Due to all of that, yes the first 45 minutes are a little slow. It was far from putting me to sleep tho and there were bits of actions scattered throughout to tease us.
Once things start picking it the pace finds a great groove and is sure to entertain til the end. Things happened that I didn’t expect (again idk anything about the comics) and I felt like they did pretty good job with both group dynamics and individuality. Some characters were lacking a bit but I guess it’s to be expected with such a large cast.
One of my biggest gripes with the MCU is the way powers are depicted and fight choreography. Happy to say this movie excelled in these categories. Each power felt unique and was utilized in a way that looked and felt powerful while also being choreographed nicely. I was most pleased with how they handled the super speed of Makkari. I didn’t like how quicksilver was done in the fox x men movies, didn’t like it in the MCU films, and I didn’t like how flash was done in DCU. Eternals nailed it.
Second biggest gripe with MCU is usually the comedy routines. This movie did have a lot of comedy but a lot of it was actually pretty good and well received by the audience. I think making the characters very down to earth and relatable went a long way there.
Some complaints would be sporadic acting quality, some iffy CGI here and there, and some scenes felt like they are included just for the sake of being there.
Overall I enjoyed it for sure and at the very least I hope we see a lot more of the eternals in the MCU going forward.
Maybe about a low 8/10
