"The work of Moor Mother, the moniker of Camae Ayewa, is a rampant and wayward practice. ... The common musical denominators in Moor Mother’s projects are improvisation and a raw and dissonant sound – with a particular mix of genres such as noise, industrial, bass music, political hip hop, (hardcore) punk. ... Her theme is resistance to – and survival in the face of – the violence and suffering that black people have had to endure from slavery until now. Memory is important in her work, even as she aims to generate a tradition of the future". - Hans Demeyer

"Moor Mother ... is the last defiantly and unapologetically political musician we have — carrying the mantle of Chuck D and others, the same fury and authority." - Elmattic

    happy 78th birthday.

  • From what I understand Sumac is a doom metal outfit outta Washington correct? This album is crazy. One of my personal favorites of the year.

Moor Mother is amazing, her collab album with Woods, "Brass" is a must listen. Also her electronic stuff with DJ Haram called 700 Bliss the album "Nothing To Declare" in particular.

The live recording of Analog Fluids w/ Beethoven Orchestra Bonn & Wooden Elephant is now available.

    Playbill for the OG show:
    komische-oper-berlin.de/en/what/a-z/echoes-of-fate

The primal force of the spoken word collides with evocative music that pierces the heart: the irrepressible power of Moor Mother's apocalyptic album is visceral. This spellbinding symphonic version created for the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn and the string quintet Wooden Elephant by Ian Anderson, the impassioned opus by the radical American poet becomes a grandiose Gesamtkunstwerk that touches the soul.
