great art comes from suffering/pain/struggle

someone who lives an easy balanced clean life will probably not make great art. they totally still can but its less common.

so its not that all our musicians live unbalanced lives, its that the ones who do tend to be more successful, leading to an overrepresentation in our pop culture

The best artists are often unbalanced. They live in their own movie 24/7. Sometimes full of disgusting behavior. Constantly rationalizing irrational choices. A career in the arts itself is irrational by society’s measure.

That lends itself to great art.

Some type of pain is usually a prerequisite. Whether u got daddy issues, or napoleon complex, or you was down bad in the streets etc. or All of it.

Remember music is expression, an outlet

I think There’s 4 main types of really great artists

• The real ass solid nigga (Kendrick)

• The Crazy & Delusional (Kanye)

• The Observer (Nas)

• The Child Prodigy (Wayne)

And they can intersect and be present in varying degreez

Yeah Kendrick’s definitely crazy. However he seems grounded in reality and humbled by life more so than Kanye has ever been in the last 15 years.

Everybody is a little crazy but if that turns out to be the thing that defines you, that’s a different convo.

The weight of the world is on their shoulders. Pressure from the Label to create, tour, press, forced social media posts, paparazzi etc. 24 hour surveillance depending on if you're willing to live in LA or parts of NYC. It'd be weak af to see yourself on TMZ once/twice a week and some smarmy placebo babies talkin about your fit.

Then you have your family who u wanna take care of but your sales are wack so while you're living your 'dream' your family is in their same living situation because u signed a 360 deal and are now a slave towards entertainment.

Lastly you have your fans. Those day ones who love you no matter what. They see your music changing or u aren't releasing because you have writers block, depression, hangovers etc and start doing d**** from your new party life of networking, coping and "brainstorming"

Being a fulltime popstar or B+ tier artist in the beast system requires a lotta maneuvering. lol I'm just talkin s*** idk wtf I'm talkin about

It’s not just the fame and it’s pressures. A lot of artists are already completely f***ed up before they ever get on.

That's true too. Not everyone is f***ed up but it seems like the one's we see on tv are hooked. I hope some of it is to maintain an image and they aren't abusing the d**** as much as they say.
