Also the binge format has run its course and Netflix really needs to abandon it. Digesting an episode per week with this season in particular would've benefitted it a lot, and it would’ve dominated the conversation a lot more than it has since it dropped last Friday.

In the last couple years alone we’ve seen plenty of high profile shows greatly benefit from the traditional week-to-week model (Euphoria, Succession, WandaVision, The Mandalorian, etc.).

The binge model was a nice way to shake things up in the TV world 7-8 years ago but I think overall it hurts series more than helps them.

I disagree. Binge watching is what made Netflix cool. This two parts thing is whack. I understand why they did it here though, the wait was killing us.

It’s what made it cool 7-8 years ago, but it’s also a big reason why they’re losing millions upon millions of subscribers every quarter now. It’s definitely one of the reasons why they’re losing so many subscribers now.

People wait until the new season of whatever show they like comes out, subscribe for one month, binge the entire season in 2-3 days, and then cancel their subscription.

It’s not a smart long term business model whatsoever.

Binge watching isn't the reason why people are leaving Netflix, it's the amount of trash they have dropped and obviously cancelled lately.

Still love Stranger Things, Ozark, You and some Korean shows though.

If they go back to episodic stuff I would just stop paying tbh. I don't want to watch 1 episode and stare at the wall for a week lol

No, you’ve got it completely wrong. It’s definitely one of the main reasons they lose so many subscribers per quarter now. Not the only reason, but a big one.

A lot of people only subscribe for the month that the new season of their favorite show comes out, and then cancel their subscription as soon as they’re done watching it.

If they did the week to week model (like Disney, Hulu, HBO Max) then people stay subscribed for at least 2-3 months at a time to finish the new season of a show, and by the time that season ends then a new big show is starting and so people stick around for another 2-3 months, etc.

They cancel their subscription cause Netflix is dead. Have you seen the catalogue this year other than ST? New shows are always almost as bad as the movies they are releasing.

Yes, and binging contributes to that.

Let’s say the new seasons of Ozark and Stranger Things were released week to week.

Ozark would have run from April to June, and then Stranger Things would’ve ran from July to September. That’s half the year right there of a mass number of people staying subscribed instead of a large percentage of them canceling as soon as they finished binging those entire seasons.

It just makes so much sense from a financial and cultural standpoint to do the week to week model.

Week to week = more $$$ and more time spent of a show dominating the cultural conversation (like Euphoria did for the first three months of 2022)

I don't know, man. The catalogue hurts way more imo. They can't just depend on the 2 shows people like.

The catalogue is pretty bad. At this point I would just give the money to Koreans cause at least they make entertaining shows.

Stranger Things will take some years to come back, last season will most likely be big and with a lot of special effects.

Yeah the catalogue is another main aspect of their recent failures. They put out way more garbage than gold.

But this also ties back to the binging aspect.

People know Netflix’s horrible ratio of good content to bad content, so they stick with the familiar stuff that they already enjoy, and then cancel their subscriptions after they finish binging the new seasons.

If they had more good shows people wouldn't even cancel it. And then they go and raise the prices smh

Might watch La Casa De Papel Korea while I wait for pt 2. And Resident Evil doesn't look too bad, I guess.

But there’s also a reason Amazon and D+ don’t release all at once

    It’s how you retain subscribers.

I watch this entire season of ST in 2 days

I watched this the day it was released lol but I'm staying around cause the few shows I still like I can binge watch them.

I don't really like the content others have other than Mando and some of the Marvel stuff. But Disney is starting to do the same thing, too many shows and some no one asked for.

I always rewatch ST seasons though.

Good season so far, can’t wait for the last two episodes

I didn’t like the Eleven Hawkins Research bit at the end, but it did eventually become relevant to the plot, I just wish it went there faster

It's pretty surreal how Netflix just gave the Duffer's a blank cheque to do whatever. The production quality is quite immaculate.

The original score, which has been my favourite part of this show hasn't been quite as memorable, still need a scene with Kids!. The plot has been much more interesting although I feel like Vecna killing off super minor characters rather than anyone major is cheap. That 20 minute exposition scene at the end was laughable too. Curious to see where this goes in the last two parts. Everyone hopping on the bikes was super nostalgic and a great callback to S1

  • This is easily the best season yet and I thought the same about the season 3 too.

    Show just keeps getting better
