Strangers On A Train
Jam packed with homerotic heat and even has a high tension tennis match
Not exactly 1:1 though
Jules and Jim is more similar
I thought you knew some Euro s*** I didn’t
I thought about it for about ten seconds
Surprised you know J&J. I blind bought it back in the day before I realized I don't like most French films.

I like Truffaut. STPP is dope
I know until death do us part but my goodness
the first meeting scene with nicholas hault and the count meeting to sign the paper is one of the best things ive seen in theatre tbh
and the entire sequence of events of him travelling there, going to the inn, getting to the castle, the events there up until him leaving in general was just godly. would work as its own little short film
i havent seen a lot of vampire stuff but the way orlok abides by like legal documents and stuff is so cool.

I couldnt help but picture him spending all day doodling that ornate paperwork out for Hoult to sign
Murnau in my top 5 directors and Herzog in my top 20 but neither of them were entirely successful in their versions so I would say;
Eggers > Herzog > Murnau

the fear in hault's performance during that s***
also so awesome how orlok just seems to be all over the room. hes sat across the table, then all of a sudden he was pouring wine from behind him, then he was sat in a different seat all within a few really tense out of focus close ups

Gray Oldman was doing the same thing in Coppola's version
And yeah I already said itt that I can't think of any actor ever looking as f***ing terrified as Hoult does in that scene. He sells it immaculately.
I watched the OG the other day and Thomas is such a doof lol
The way he laughs with his mouth wide open
Niggas really upset at his mustache

That's high praise
who got movie recs with a similar vibe or time period?
Faust ¹⁹²⁶ and Vampyr ¹⁹³²
1926
I know how that sounds but I promise you will be captivated within the first 60 seconds and astonished at what you are witnessing by the 5 minute mark. theres a sequence half an hour in that puts 99% of the special effects we see these days to shame.
and you will totally understand what Eggers is going for/coming from after you watch that and Vampyr. people using the term "elevated horror" are ignoring the fact that the creepy old euro's already elevated them to high art a century ago.

I’ll give it a watch. Do you know if it’s on streaming?
