i had a bit of a breakthrough drawing last night, trying to improve my drawings of plants and landscapes.

but feeling good about something you draw always a trap

your eye and hand improves at different rates.

when you like something you drew, its because your hand has improved more than your eye can see. you just cant see the mistakes yet

but when youre not content with something you made, its because you can see the mistakes and your hand isnt able to do what your brain wants yet.

its better to be at the latter stage, because once you cant see what to do, learning to see it can be tough

ive been doing copies of these great landscape painters menzel and fragonard. and ive been hitting those pretty good.

but transferring elements of their process to my original work wasnt hitting like I wanted.

then last night I was doing this landscape from imagination, I think i got fairly close, its definetly working a lot better than it ever has before!
