Probably but I don't think they should just be left to wander the streets either

I agree. They closed a lot of the state psych wards that were containing/helping these people (though abuse was rampant in them too) in favor of community centers. But the community centers were never really built/funded in a way that met the same need. And here we are.

I befriended a homeless dude in laguna beach idk if he was actually homeless but he was very kind and we’d chat sometimes. I stopped seeing him at some point he said he was homeless by choice

Yeah this is a real thing. There is/was a whole community of rich trust fund kids who chose to be homeless in NYC. There’s also a whole homeless surfer movement in Hawaii.

There’s something different about the homeless in america, like the homeless in europe from what ive seen were generally harmless but there are scary ass homeless in ny and in LA they’re zombies

The litmus test would be whether or not someone can be a functional member of society in their current state. I don’t think you can really genuinely give options to a violent schizophrenic that’s off the meds, for example. They aren’t going to choose to be on meds most of the time as they don’t typically possess the insight to do so.

I get what you’re saying, because there are people dealing with severe mental illness who may not be able to function safely on their own. I’m not against having places like asylums or long-term care facilities for people who genuinely need that level of support. I just think there needs to be a clear distinction between people who need intensive treatment and people who are homeless because of economic reasons. Everyone shouldn’t be treated the same, but everyone should have access to the kind of help they actually need.

Ya that's bad we should have those places but without the abuse

For sure. Anyone that’s functional should be given a pathway back to a normal life.

Unless you’re in Colombia, all that s*** is cut everywhere. It’s just fentanyl isn’t a problem in Europe currently but you’re still probably getting some weird meth isomers and other trash.
