Who does that lie on? Cause a lot of these talented artist you speak of don’t have the strongest connections for that push.

But the truth of this era is anything could happen from word of mouth or just gaining enough traction so there’s something definitely missing in the area of exposure, gate keeping aside.

Lies on the music industry not caring about music, only quick returns to investment. Word of mouth will never help an artist that doesn’t have a sizeable fan base/clout to begin with. People are sheeps that like to be on the winning team, rather than pioneers. So artists need to be business-men first and musicians second. Art and business mix as well as water and oil.
Capitalism has destroyed music. Sociopaths in the music business has made it so that pay to win is the only way to make it in music. Intelligence has decreased as a whole. Less intelligence leads to more sociopaths - that’s the reality of it. Talentless hacks are now being presented on stage at very big venues only to be booed out of the building by fans (of the band they opened for) - rather than building a natural trajectory towards that goal through the music itself.

Oh so you think a label is the only way to support artist you like? Because their only motivation is gains idk why you even brought labels up when we’re talking about supporting artist that already don’t get exposure

  • Free YoungBoy

Name some of the talent that isnt being promoted

There are lots on YouTube and soundcloud but they only have like 100 - 1000 plays.

The industry as a whole is so bad now that I’m not sure if there’s a solution anymore. Bandcamp is dying at an accelerated rate; Spotify is creating a new royalty system; more and more venues have a pay to play system (if you’re not that big) etc. Basically, music is imploding and we are witnessing it first hand.

Y'all be calling people old cause they ain't tryna listen to some f***in Ken Carson or Teezo Touchdown or whatever trendy industry backed horseshit y'all creaming yourselves over. Whole time it's a bunch of new, or in the case of Teezo, artists who are actually young out there who are legitimately talented and us "old heads" do like that are unfortunately not getting the shine they deserve cause y'all rather big up bullshit.

Facts and unfortunately some of them are still in positions to be powerful taste makers in the culture

It’s those people who create the false narrative that rap is garbage now and not even worth the listen and the sheeps follow

Those who do listen rarely do so unbiasedly and go into every album with a review from some old head tainting their perspective, hearing everything THEY say is wrong with it instead of hearing all the things that are dope organically

I hate this era of old heads fr lol

Oldheads are only bad when they simply trash something cuz it’s different like the whole 2017-2018 SoundCloud era for example.

But as of rn, I think they got a point because none of these rappers are trying to help the genre evolve

And the ones that do are not breaking through as easily or are too niche too pop off

Cause there’s no point really. You have to just laugh at it. The way some of y’all see hip hop and music in general is so shallow. A bunch of 20 somethings stuck on the music that was out when they were in high school/college. Not open minded at all to new music/new styles

You got people unironically asking for the next iteration of kendrick/drake/Cole.

why? he's been experimenting for the past 4-5 years
some of his experiments were not good (like the baby voice s***) but at least he's not stagnated like 95% of the artists

How in the world are "old heads" powerful tastemakers when they've always been slandered in rap.

A lot of the older audience that listens to DEHH, Joe Budden, or Ebro from Hot 97 weren't ever going to be the main source of success for the younger rappers in the 1st place.

How in the world is a stuck in the 90's rap fan stopping teens or young adults today from helping the younger rappers boost their sales or counter their narratives?

I'm a Wayne fan so I'm sure you know that many old heads used to hate on Wayne but Wayne was still able to sell like crazy even in the midst of it all.

The question you should be asking is: Did the old heads become bigger tastemakers or are even the youth or young adults today starting to not f*** with hip hop as much as they used to?

I give him credit for experimenting but his style is the easiest to bite

You can see it in rappers like Cochise are living off being a Carti clone

We need more than Carti’s sound to move rap forward

Why do you guys always say “they ain’t open to new styles”?

New styles is what everyone itt that’s disagreeing with op is fighting for

What new styles of hip hop have popped up in the last 5 years that have gotten any traction other than rage stuff?

And Rage stuff has been around for like 3 years and all we’ve got out of it is a bunch or rip off playboi Carti artists

Mainstream hip hop is severely lacking on diversity when compared to the early 2010s and if you disagree with that then your probably too young to even know what your talking about

They care more about the pop culture bullshit surrounding the music than the actual music itself.

My brother in Christ....then why are the "older" rappers still largely dropping the best music and outrapping the game?

You think old head niggas or hip hop heads are flocking to Griselda, Kendrick, Cole, Nas, Billy Woods, Danny Brown, Gibbs, Pusha, Alchemist, Roc Marciano, and Run The Jewels over the newer school rappers because of "pop culture bullshit" as opposed to quality? Lmao.

And I know there's plenty of younger talent as well but it's not to the same degree and this is reflected in how the 30+ rappers are not only still outselling the game but putting out the best projects as well.

Peggy and Danny Brown literally shat on the newer generation like some old heads during the Scaring the Hoes rollout and guess what? Scaring the Hoes is still one of the best projects that came out this year so they can talk their s***.

I like Carti, Uzi, Ken, Yeat, Teezo, Cordae, Lil Baby, Durk, Youngboy, etc. but the standard is clearly lower for them. Doesn't mean they don't have good music though.
