if that's the case i still think the budget will reach a point where it just doesn't make sense for netflix. at $17 million per episode, one piece is already up to $136 million for only 8 episodes and things certainly aren't gonna get cheaper as the world expands. plus with the way netflix was already bleeding money before this and searching for any possible way to increase profits, it's tough to see how much of future this can actually have

I think netflix could be desperate for this to hit and renew since they're fiending for a new hit show after stranger things, Wednesday, and Squid Game. Can't just make Stranger Things seasons forever those kids are already 20 and 30 now. And most people who watched the show seem to like it. Judging from the reviews

True, this is netflix's most expensive show of all time if this is a mega hit they could probably spend a big bag to make the show look better. Its just netflix is really impatient with shows if they arent a mega hit they pull the plug quick. if they get more seasons the main thing I'm worried about is the cast aging they are all in their late 20s except Luffy and I think the girl who plays Nami just turned 30.

I thought the Avatar live action is their most expensive show?

Oh I forgot about Avatar, I meant one of the most expensive lol. This and Avatar need to hit for Netflix to justify the money they spent.

eh, i think the difference with those properties is that netflix owns them so they can monetize them in other ways (merch, licensing, etc), though i'm not sure how that works with the adams family and wednesday. one piece is owned by shueisha and oda, so the monetizing opportunities aren't as much of an option for netflix.

i definitely think there will be another season, i'm just not confident in it lasting much longer than that

sanji leaving the baratie hit hard again

i love that scene so much that i think seeing it in any medium would hurt lol

  • I'm on episode 4 of the Netflix series and I HATE Luffy's "serious voice".

Like why are you whispering all your lines? Lol.

BRO!!! like come on now! Didn’t even think of Jaya. That and the scenes with Blackbeard cannot be skipped at all if this gets renewed

Jaya never gets talked about because it's so short but it's one of my favorite stretches of the story

Literally jammed with nothing but highlights and not even just the Blackbeard stuff

That was one of the wildest sequences i have ever seen . Like even crazier than zoro and king

    I was SHOOK

It just kept going and going

One of the best things I've ever seen in One Piece...brought that part of the chapter to LIFE

All depends on their internal numbers. It broke Wednesday's and Stranger Things record so... I dunno. If it's a cash cow I'm sure Netflix won't hesitate.

Hot dog they wilded the f*** out with the animation this ep

finished the live action, overall i'd give it a 6.5 or 7/10. i think they did a lot of good stuff but i also think there's a lot of problems that will be overlooked cause we're all such massive fans already

i thought baratie and arlong park were both done very well but i don't really feel like writing a post for both so i'll just list the things i liked and disliked about the series as a whole

    likes

    • taz, emily and the actors who played mihawk and buggy. i think these 4 gave the best performances out of the entire cast and did their characters justice

    • i loved the sets. they were all amazing and i think they brought each location to life

    • while not as amazing as the anime ost, thought the music was all handled well

    • the fishmen looked way better than i expected them to. a few of them looked a little rubbery and stiff but i think they managed to avoid looking overly silly

    • all the action scenes were great

    • the majority of the costumes were done well too. a few times they looked a little like cosplay but that's fine. i thought it was really cute that nami's bandana had the same pattern as luffy's shirt in dressrosa

    • for the most part i think the stuff the changed or cut was fine

    dislikes/criticisms

    • there were way too many odd camera shots and depth of field choices. sometimes it felt like they were trying to mimic manga panels and it just didn't look good

    • overall i'd say the acting was on the poorer side of things. i can accept some level of goofiness and camp but there were some moments where it felt like the shot they used was the very first one they took

    • pretty much all the flashbacks felt rushed and weren't given the proper time. i can give a pass on the poor acting in these moments cause we're talking about child actors (and maybe that's why they rushed these moments) but the flashbacks are such an important part of the story that this has me worried about how they'd handle future flashbacks

    • i'm not a huge fan of how much koby and garp were in this. i understand things needing to be rewritten but i felt a lot of their scenes were didn't really add all that much and were just kinda there to hit the hour mark

    • there are definitely quite a few moments where things look cheap and amateurish and combined with the acting, scenes that were supposed to hit just didn't land for me
