He also didn't say anything when he accepted his Grammys, even though that was at the peak of the anti-ICE sentiment, which many artists at the awards commented on.

But either way, focusing on Drake alone, it's an absurd accusation. Drake is not right-wing in any sense, but accusing him, the most identifiably Canadian person in the world, of being “MAGA” is American-centric in a way that is quite tone deaf and disrespectful. Anti-American sentiment in Canada is at the highest it's ever been, and you can argue Drake has leaned into that, or at the very least leaned on his Canadian identity even harder, post-beef.

And to believe he is right-wing, you have to be uninformed, unserious, stupid, or a mix of the three. He has called Trump out multiple times and celebrated Biden’s win in 2020. Now it’s fair to say that the political climate has changed and that many people who didn’t support Trump in his first term do so now, but there’s no evidence Drake is one of them, so disregarding his previous comments is ridiculous. Even since 2022, he's had the pro-abortion bar on Her Loss, called out homophobia in 2023, signed the ceasefire petition, and now the anti-ICE bar on Iceman. One of Touré's quotes was “someone could probably talk him into being pro-Israel in four minutes” which is so stupid. Drake doesn't let politics control his life and relationships the way many people do, but that doesn't mean he's stupid or doesn't have stances. Every single stance he has taken has been pretty left-leaning. It’s also important to remember that he signed the ceasefire petition very early on, at a time when the climate was not so anti-Israel as it is today.

So, what is the evidence of him being right-wing? He has a relationship with Adin Ross and Akademiks. That’s it. Everything else is just vibes, he's rich, he's powerful, he's hated, none of which means anything. I dislike Adin and Ak as much as everyone else, and would prefer he never spoke to them, but those relationships clearly aren't as close as most people make them out to be. They're not in his circle, they don't speak often, and the relationships are more about business than anything else. I don't think they say much, if anything, about his politics. And what about the people who are actually around him? 40, one of his closest and longest-running friends and collaborators, is far more left-leaning than Adin and Ak are right-leaning. But people are either too uninformed or too biased to talk about that relationship.

The fact that a 30-minute video exists on the topic is insane. Drake was following the POTUS and VP Instagram accounts under Biden, and when those accounts transitioned to Trump and Vance (whom he never actually followed), there was much said. But he has since unfollowed both, while still following Biden and Kamala. That alone should have been a definitive answer. But no, Fantano leaves that information out of the video, and instead they spend their time misinterpreting a bar to make it sound like Drake was accusing Kendrick specifically of antisemitism when the line was really a comment on broader cultural hostility.

It’s cope 100%. They need any smear they can get.

Also I’m sure this obvious to a lot of yall but no one on the pods is really pointing out that the “run to Hov for a second opinion” is about Cole

He basically saying Hov is what took Cole off the board

    Which is CRAZY

Was this reported on or just wn assumption of what the line is alluding to

  • Mondegreen

Was this reported on or just wn assumption of what the line is alluding to

It’s my read of the line when the following lines are objectively about Cole and more documented and noted by media. But that preceding line in the scheme hasn’t been discussed as much

If anyone is going to Drake expecting nuanced American political commentary in his music, they have the wrong guy.

It's so easy for the American media and the casual listener to conflate the image of Drake that Kendrick painted to be a culturally ignorant and socially conservative freak but like come on he's just a very rich guy from Toronto and his politics are very averagely wealthy Ontarian. It's obscene to even think that he's ever mentioned any popular maga sentiment like deporting immigrants or more conservative law enforcement or more resource extraction. Like what are we doing here?

Could he do more with his platform? Probably but that's never been his perogative or led anywhere for anyone else. Even the other guy doesn't align himself with any political party, but no one has ever questioned his stance on immigration.
