Yeah, but they also weren’t the good guys. Both sides were bad guys, one side was just worse. The Soviet Union under Stalin is not the same Soviet Union from the 50s onward. It was a genocidal authoritarian regime. It became much better (and arguably better than the imperialist capitalist regimes) after Stalin died.
