The US has been funding neo nazi groups in Ukraine for a while and during the 2014 revolution the US backed revolutionaries were right wing to various degrees and banned all left wing parties from the parliament.

This has a twofold effect. First, they were pro-Western as a result of funding and armament and support. This meant Ukraine would support the West and oppose Russia just as NATO wanted.

Secondly. This ended up creating an alibi for the Russians to invade I’m even though their ambitions are more geopolitical and less ideological

There’s no good government in this fight even though Russia shouldn’t have invaded. The only people to support are the actual individuals on the ground of Both sides who are being forced to fight a war they don’t want
