saying this as someone who generally finds charts to be interesting, they've never mattered less than they do now. everyone is just too siloed off. it is very easy to hear absolutely nothing in the top ten if you don't actively seek it out.
no disrespect to ella langley, but she's supposedly having a billie eilish style breakout year and there is a low chance i will ever hear anything she makes. that's the case with most popular music these days.
rap not being in the cultural conversation is not a great thing, per say, but the culture itself is dying a slow death anyways.
Liv.e x Karriem Riggins (GENA) aren't rappers + they have AOTY so far.
Liv.e is a rapper
Karriem produces for rappers

Let it die man this s*** aint been culture since 1982 bro.
"hearing it outside" might as well be "hearing it on the radio" because most people are just autoplaying
Oh bro we is COOKED @Leftside

I asked some young relatives over Easter what music they were listening to. Like 10 and under kids. They knew TIk Tok sounds and had never heard the full songs. That's the state of music afaik. It's like ringtone rap but nobody has heard the full song.
