Lupe Fiasco
MF DOOM
Captain Murphy
Man....Even though they're not personally in my top 10, I always have so much fun dissecting Lupe and Doom lyrics on Rap Genius.
It's crazy how many references they put in many of their songs.
Some of these newer guys are really elite when it comes to rapping AND making great music. Top of my head I’m thinking Isaiah Rashad, Smino, JID… time will definitely tell for them. I think Rashad Smino both have the discographies that separate them from a lot of their peers. I’d like to see more from JID tho.
Of all time tho? Probably Q-Tip, KRIT, Big Boi, Blu, and Ab Soul.
A few rappers:
Beanie Sigel
Redman(mostly due to future generations not being respectful to older ones)
Chuck D
Scarface
The Game

Q-Tip is kinda high on my list
Grew up on his debut album and Tribe
That first Tribe album is essentially a Q Tip album too and it put those guys on the map.

I agree with this but I think there will be a bunch of uncomfortable conversations in regards to that.

I like puzzle rap like that but I get that not being someone’s thing

Old heads realization that there are younger (not quite) rappers out here consistently dropping quality albums compared to the OGs track record may not sit well with them from a nostalgia standpoint. Plus, you got the younger crowd who either don't care or look down on lyricists in that style. So those guys are in a tough spot imo. I think some of those guys should be in that convo imo. However, people's personal bias would let go of that perception but it's unfortunate that there is a misconception and a
on those guys
Other guys that should be up there in that regard would be:
Denzel Curry
Pink Siifu
MIKE
Navy Blue should be up there but needs more material imo

Oh yea facts ay look I been saying this day ONE that nobody and I MEAN NOBODY can flow like Smino. Not to mention some really great, cohesive projects to go along with it. Isaiah Rashad has 3 MAJOR bodies of work that all stand on their own. They def deserve some recognition

The only knock on those guys is that they may not have shifted culture just like the guys on your typical Top 20 but I think some of them have especially Smino, Zeltron, and MIKE(and to a bigger extent Slums)
bro i was listening to old french and he had a song w spitta on it and that s*** had me revisiting his discography last week
ngl haven’t played/kept up w his music in years tho
I don’t listen to new Spitta projects at all, too many projects to keep up with lol
But yea him and French got 2 classics

Can't forget about Joey Badass. He has a worthy discography that has essential albums for the last decade. Plus he shows versatility too (Ex. Love Is Only A Feelling, Fallin, Devastated)

Yea I agree with you. Influence and impact is important. I def see it for MIKE and Smino tho.
ghostface is number one in my head...idk billy woods is personal top 5, slick rick too, ladybug mecca from digable planets and and I can't think of one more
dom kennedy for sure lmfso (will always be in my top 5 nostalgia crazy like that sometimes)
ranking artists based on how much you enjoy listening to
their music/most plays >>>> ranking artists based on skill level and talent
like yeah eminem can rap circles while running backwards around someone like dom but i have zero desire to listen to any of his s*** so why would i ever put him in my top 5 if i don’t even fw him like that?
dom is so goated man
get home safely is a classic
tyler is in my top 5 and will forever be, literally been following his career since i was in middle school lol
I think my list isn’t conventional but it’s all artists that have been posted multiple times and I’ve also saw them on other forums as well as Tik Tok so no my music taste in hip hop isn’t as unique as I thought it was
