  • Back when I used streaming services I tended to play a song and then listen to the playlist generated by the algorithm.

When I had Apple Music this was a mistake as it tended to play the same 10-15 songs no matter what song I'd initially picked. On Deezer this ruled as I found a bunch of songs I'd never heard before.

Anyways, there were some rappers where the algorithm made me like them more, and other rappers where it made me less of a fan.

    More of a fan
Lil Wayne: I heard tons of features and loosies I had missed when they were relased
Young Dolph: He has a large discog and I heard some absolute hits I would have missed
Three 6 Mafia: Introduced to me to a lot of classics that were under different names on streaming services
Young MA: I like her vibe but had trouble getting into her at first because some of her popular songs don't showcase her talent.
Blueface: introduced me to random loosies I would have missed
Rick Ross: people had uploaded freestyles and loosies I hadn't heard from him.

    Less of a fan
Youngboy: Apple Music kept playing these three songs from an era of YB I disliked and it pissed me off
2 Chainz: I always liked 2 Chainz because of he was a great lyricist who knew how to dumb down his music and make bangers. But apparently he made a lot of C-list bangers that I hadn't heard. Maybe he wasn't as good at that as I thought lol
Tee Grizzley: I liked his songs with Yachty but he had some annoying ones too.

  • Maybe it was because I had a Family Plan for Apple Music but the suggestions were absolutely terrible. I know people complain about bots or wtv but it was shoving the same songs down my throat.

    Walk It Talk It
    Both
Kacey Talk and those other YB songs.

Young Thug has so many hits but it kept recommending Digits on repeat

i don't either, but relying on local files comes with its own set of downsides.

    True.

But then again, really obscure s*** is -- to put it simply -- unavailable on streaming services.

Back when beats streaming first became Apple Music, I used to always get Pacifier on every hip hop radio station I played lol. Like 1 in every 10 songs

what do you do when you want to hear a specific song?

i go to that specific song and listen to it on repeat for a bit. or add it to a playlist but i feel like i rarely go back to the playlists i make. they're more of a capsule of what i was listening to during a timerange and saved the songs i enjoyed the most from projects.

    Don’t ever diss YB again

i held my tongue when he dissed Kodak. but he crossed the line when he dissed blueface. the lack of his respect he and his stans had for blueface showed me the true colors of the cult that surrounds him.

YB peaked early on in his career and his commercially dominant era around 2020 was his worst. He's gotten better since but 2016-18 was when he was at his best.

i am not going to sit here and pretend that tuneless, no melody, drenched in autotune warbles Youngboy was doing in 2020 were good.

    The f*** is auto play

when you play a song on a streaming service, it creates a playlist of songs to play afterwards, ideally ones you'd like. IE on deezer I played a Lil Boosie song, and what followed were Juug King by Young Scooter, Screen Door by Gucci Mane, another Boosie song, then a Young Dolph song... so on and so forth.

edit: to be clear this is when you search for a song. If you play a song off an album or a playlist it will play the rest of the album or playlist
