I saw the master collection of U1-U3 for 10 bucks so I copped it figuring hey I haven't played these classics in years

Then I remembered how amazing that train sequence was from U2. This was really some next level stuff man. Naughty Dog really was ahead of the curve.

One of the best levels/set pieces of all time.

They did a train sequence similar again huh, in the one where you play as Chloe? Haven't played that in forever either, don't even remember what it's about.

Here's a neat little video for how they did the level though for those interested.

Fun fact: An early idea for the last of us came from the level in U2 where you are with Tenzin. It gave them the idea of wanting to do an entire game where you have a partner of some sort

I still feel like they haven’t topped themselves set piece wise.

Last of us doesn’t really lend itself to crazy over the top moments so it makes sense they haven’t tried there. Lost legacy comes close but it being a nostalgia play diminished it a little for me

They don’t make ‘em like this any more. These games are so replayable

Comes very close for me, on a technical level the buggy chase is way more impressive

Low key part 2 started to kinda have some uncharted inspired set pieces. The sky scraper, car chases, horse chases lol. They were really in their bag man. I enjoyed that aspect of part 2, though yeah it clearly wasn't the focus.

Yeah, Abby half of the game definitely felt Uncharted like

Love the intro for U2. Too bad people think it started a trend of overly cinematic set pieces for games and now they just complain about this type of stuff

Yeah the intro and the game itself is a forever classic, I'm not even a big fan of uncharted myself (I don't dislike it tho) but U2 is one of them ones, especially then

I hate it when the dislike of "cinematics" is overblown that they get mad at any cutscene that conveys story or is over a minute long regardless of how much combat and gameplay is in the actual game - like how the dumbasses against GOW Laufey other critic outside of woman is that it's "all cinematics" when the preview showed a lot of gameplay and its the literal intro so of course its going to take sone tine to set up things to you

Or like MGSV has a lot of gameplay on top of the cinematics but some ppl just ignore how much gameplay their actually is

    Etc.

Nowadays there are some games that do good balance of gameplay and in-depth cinematics but the s***ters are gonna s*** as always
