This was pretty underwhelming for me. It was just a revenge story so the characters and their motivations never intrigued me. Didn’t really seem like it was saying much. Compared to The Green Knight, which was this deconstruction of myth, this felt… empty. It ended and I didn’t really feel anything, I was just like huh, that’s definitely not gonna stick with me.

felt the exact same but i figure it's cus i avoided reading anything about this i was just high on the fumes of the lighthouse & the casting

it's like really impressive execution but this type of straight forward revenge blockbuster action movie does nothing for me unfortunately i prob woulda enjoyed it way more if i were just expecting a popcorn flick

To be honest I was gonna write a long post explaining why this film is special but I saw you loved green knight so not worthwhile we just want different things from a film I guess

I haven’t seen this yet, but not every movie needs to be some complex story telling if the execution is done great.

Feel free to say whatever. Now I’m curious why you didn’t like Green Knight. Did you respond more to the brutality, action, and tragedy of this story? Green Knight is like an arty anti-fantasy adventure. But it’s really a coming of age story.

It doesn’t, but what it does need to do, is get you to care about the characters. Good execution, without that, is like a nice car without an engine.

Yup, felt like The Revenant where all the fun is the immediate visceral thrill of it then you just have Leo looking in the camera like "okay, that's all folks" on some Porky Pig s***

I liked it though. Rather watch that than another Marvel movie

Yea GK bored me, Ive not got a problem with artsy films Antonionis one of my favorite directors I just don't recall Lowery actually saying anything in this. I also couldn't finish a ghost story so I think its more a problem with him as a director for me

Northman I really liked because it feels so real, I wasn't necessarily rooting for Amleth to succeed, the character building scenes were my least favorite, but the village invasion, the witches, the murders all feel visceral and made me contemplate living in that world and how it would suck

  • May 10, 2022

Also having watched Last Temptation recently, Lowery took quite a bit of inspiration from Marty

I just want to support Sam Raimi but I know it's gonna be like 2+ hours of typical Marvel with a sprinkling of Raimi. I didn't see Endgame or those Spider Man movies or Wonderwoman or whatever. Really tryna just check out of this stuff
