Claiming she's the heartbeat etc. when they really didn't flesh Franks family life at all. It was basically every half an hour you'd get a minute long scene where she's either brooding at Russ or happy with Jimmy. great…

Felt hamfisted and I wish they'd done more with Frank's family cause then the last part would've hit way more. And it wouldn't feel a bit cheap

This was f***ing fantastic. It really shows you when you choose that life you get nothing in return at the end of the day. If you don't get murdered you die a lonely old man that did nothing of actual value with your life. S*** is dark

the reason the family isn't in the film much is because its from Frank's recollection, and their absence from the film is literally the point that they weren't really apart of his life. That is why their brief appearances are so integral to the entire purpose of the film. That is why Peggy barely says anything and when she does it hits so hard.

I also think in general, it is really pleb-tier logic to think more screen time/dialogue = better characterization.

it kinda works because their underrepresentation in the film reflects Frank's neglect of them, which started to affect him more and more as he was getting older, because the other part of his life was coming to an end. eventually he realised his friends died and he gave up on his family for them a long time ago, so both halves of his life were gone
