dundisi personally feel like I shouldn't write about a genre where the environment is unfamiliar to me, like crime, even though I grew up in sort of a shady neighborhood and I've seen some f***ed up s*** here and there
so it's mostly just depressing/self-depricating s*** that I feel like I'm ventilating through cinema when I think about what I want to do

I’m confused on why y’all are defending your love for old films, I never said there’s anything wrong with it. I’ve clearly stated I love old films too.
A few users FIRST was clowning @Jonboi for mentioning Tarantino saying “watch more movies loser” that’s when I said oh ppl are being pretentious in here. Is that not valid?
And then someone else said “40-60s movies makes todays films look like s***” (paraphrasing)
I don’t see how y’all took offense to my pretentious comments cus honestly they wasn’t even aimed at you or Elric to begin with. They was literally aimed at the people who was clowning on Jon.
I just don’t like people assuming that I’m not open-minded or willing to explore. It’s not accurate. I was surprised I didn’t see much new stuff, but now I realize that’s par for the course with who gets a vote.
Pretentious is one of those weird words cause I think there’s a place for it but you have to have a real sense that the person is being performative or reductive. A lot of times it’s just used when it’s something the person doesn’t understand. I feel like 99% of the people we meet in real life aren’t into film like that, so people wanna feel heard in these spaces, but you can tribe up in any direction. Let’s just move away from the pissing contests, I’m just tryna be put on to some new experiences.

I think art is a way for us to make something of our life narrative
When it works, it’s magic
