the idea that luke skywalker of all people is in hiding while a couple of rookies are out fighting the first order - what is such a threat and so dangerous that luke won't stand up and fight? makes zero sense.
whatever idea they had, even if i disagree with it, they didnt do a good job conveying it on screen.
what they should have had is built up kylo and snoke (i think snoke was a wack character, but whatever) and then have luke clash with them at some point. we get to see some of luke's incredible powers. by having kylo struggle with rookies in the first film tho, it kind of ruins that whole idea tho. luke would mop the floor with anyone the first order were to put in front of him.
How is he going to fight if he cut himself off from the force and lost all faith in the Jedi order
I’m sorry you didn’t get your super saiyan god mode Luke
But what Luke did at the end with Kylo was the most Jedi s*** I’ve ever seen and true to what Yoda was teaching him in Empire Strikes Back
Luke literally failed to re-established the Jedi by failing Kylo.
he has a genuine redemption in this film, a genuine reason to be reclusive feeling like the path of the Jedi need to end.
Luke had always been a person who would fail and fail for him to finally be able to pick himself up and redeem himself
I’m sorry what exactly did you want from this film? did you want some f***ing boring team up movie where the character depth of Luke is as about as one dimensional and bland as it gets?
“i want my saber fights, i wanna see cool action sequences with Luke Skywalker and his green saber!”
Like most Star Wars fans they wanted new self-contained stories outside of the Skywalker storyline in the Star Wars universe
the fact that he struggled at all makes him look weak. rey is a rookie with no training. someone well schooled in the force should make quick work of a beginner.
to compare - anakin, who was the chosen one and seen as the ultimate prodigy, got schooled in mere seconds when he tried to rush in and confront count dooku. then, after gathering his senses, he lasts another 30 seconds or whatever until he gets his hand chopped off. dooku is superior to kylo for sure, but anakin was also 10x what rey was at that point.
for kylo ren to be portrayed as a powerful force user on the dark side - you simply cant have him looking weak and struggling with rookies. i dont care about getting hit by chewie or he felt bad about killing han. its bad storytelling and it makes no sense.
You’re genuinely a f***ing idiot lol
pretending like Rey hasn’t had combat experience in the least bit throughout her days growing up stranded alone
Blatantly ignoring previous examples of Kylo over-powering Rey earlier with ease
and really if he had wanted to he could have killed her then in that battle.
It’s just laughable dude

I will be the first one to say that ever since Disney had acquired Star Wars i was hoping for more shows/movies outside the Skywalker Saga like The Mandalorian

You don’t care that he just killed his f***ing FATHER!? Lmao what? My guy you’re making no sense

combat experience to go back and forth with kylo ren? even with kylo holding back, he should school her with 1 hand behind his back. he is trained, she is not.
why do jedi train from basically birth then if its so easy?

Kylo’s whole arc is about his inner battle with the light side and literally making the choice of killing his father to surrender to the dark, AND EVEN THEN he felt conflicted and weakened AND STILL TOOK HITS like a f***ing Champ.
The fact Rey survived at all was merely a miracle for her

dude was schooling her. And in typical Star Wars fashion they resorted to “the force is strong with this one” cliche with the main protagonist of the story.
this is like asking why Vader got f***ing decimated by his son who is nowhere near as experienced in Return of the Jedi.
And i’d say having years upon years with the staff to LITERALLY survive by herself as a slave. Yeah that’s combat experience

The thing is he thought killing his father would make him stronger and fully committed to the dark side. But it didn’t, it made him weaker. Snoke even says in the next movie the deed split him to the bone. Man couldn’t even take the shot to kill his mother

This is true, they just accelerated it in Rey's case

Swear dude people act like TFA and TLJ don’t have explanations to these character’s motivations and how it moves the plot forward.
s*** is really irritating explaining super basic explanations to s*** people should understand on a first watch.

Precisely.
and even in this interaction, it doesn’t inherently mean that Rey is overall stronger the Kylo.
She wouldn’t have been constantly running away from him if this were the case

many people havent watched TLJ since release.
it nearly tanked the entire franchise, which is why TROS ended up the way it did.
I love arguing and discussing the minutia of these films but to me at the end of the day is are the films entertaining. The OG trilogy had some goofy s*** too (ROTJ lol) but the newest trilogy just didn't capture the fun or soul of the OG trilogy but that's fine cause neither did the prequels, for different reasons.

i know im joining the convo late af and maybe this has already been said
but i think TROS is what put a really unfair nail in TLJ.
since this was an unplanned story, there could've been some yes-and-ing in terms of passing the baton. TROS could've been a movie that made TLJ make sense and feel more solid as a middle piece of a trilogy. they could've yes-and'd the choices and taken them and tried to do something.
rather than just say no, nah, not that, forget that, mock that, make fun of that and end up being a movie that is nothing through being totally reactionary

at least luke, according to the lore, goes down to become an all-time great force user.
i dont understand how rey fighting bums with her staff prepares her to fight kylo ren, who has been trained by luke, then turned and is now being trained by snoke
seems like all of that extensive training is for nothing, which is why the story is god awful.
tons of fans have expressed the same thing ive stated. this is not news at all

many people hate watched TLJ on repeat to b**** and moan about it.
let’s not pretend that this isn’t the case.
and i’d strongly argue that because of the b****ing and moaning by moronic dip s*** fans who wanted something that they didn’t get, we had Disney react like cowards hiring JJ to wrap up with him and one of the worst writers in the industry half ass’ing and actively trying to retcon TLJ to make the piece of s*** TROS.

bro i don’t know what to tell you.
if your simple mind can’t understand how a villain can be beaten in his weakest state then i don’t think sci fi fantasy films are for you my dude.
by the way daily reminder that Vader never over threw The Emperor until it was his son’s life at stake, Kylo Ren just straight up sliced Snoke in half to take over the thrown

Honestly man, people would nitpick these movies to death but let the prequels, OG trilogy and the mandalorian go scot free with similar issues
TFA and TLJ are amazing Star Wars movies imo. The Rise of Skywalker is where s*** gets absolutely ruined, and I blame those a******s crying about TLJ

f***ing, thank you.
you know how many f***ing problems there are in these films in general and then people act like the sequel trilogy is here to skull f*** their daddy luke.
Holy s***, sorry that Rian tried to make a different Star Wars movie that challenged you.

it matters when you're building up a trilogy and preparing for the other 2 movies to come.
you mentioned luke chopping off vaders hand in ROTJ - ROTJ is the final film in the trilogy. that is the final confrontation. vader stomps him in empire, and in episode 4 we just see vader battle obi wan.
imagine in a new hope if luke confronted darth vader with no training and somehow came out of it unscathed, or even got a decent hit in. that makes vader look weak and less imposing as the big bad villain of the movies.
its just bad writing across the board, you keep defending these awfully written characters. the fans arent dipshits - more than the fans have let their opinion known on these movies.
by the way daily reminder that Vader never over threw The Emperor until it was his son’s life at stake, Kylo Ren just straight up sliced Snoke in half to take over the thrown
Let the past die...KILL IT if you have to
Kylo was supposed to be the main villain then dumbass s*** for brains thought it would be a good idea to bring the Emperor back

you might be first guy ive ever seen say they are amazing movies.
to each his own, but the whole sequel trilogy is a disaster if you ask me. prequels have a lot of problems for sure, but ill take the characters and universe from those movies > the sequels.
you're in the minority with those statements
