Won't lie, seeing the world's reaction to, and constantly discovering that yeah, maybe Star Wars is just OK never gets old
This BIG facts, not enough people are really talking about this aspect of it. I think people forget how old this s*** really is sometimes. As warranted as the backlash for this entire trilogy is from an artistic perspective, I believe a large part of it overall can be attributed to people struggling with the realization that they may simply be outgrowing Star Wars. I mean, the reaction to this is nearly identical to the prequels and if you think about it, it’s coming from relatively the same age group
I’m not trying to absolve anyone for the mess this has been but that really speaks volumes imo
Visually the best Star Wars film. Some of those shots are magnificent.
Micky Mouse forbid that someone who knows how to make an artful, creative movie take the helm on a beloved franchise
To be fair, Disney was willing to give him an entire trilogy. They clearly liked TLJ. I don’t know if you can blame them for making a business decision after the backlash ensued

Also take in mind TLJ's production is the only Disney SW movie that went smooth and without major leaks.
They must have loved that and decided to give him his own stuff in the universe
If anything this backlash benefits Jumanji
watched Jumanji today, it's legitimately an enjoyable time
I love TLJ, and think it's better than TFA...do you think I will like this film or naw?
"It represents the cultural theft of Star Wars from today’s kids by today’s arrested-development-stricken adults. Star Wars was a franchise first and foremost for children, and the kids who grew up with Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and the MCU have embraced harsh truths and challenging narratives. Lucasfilm and Disney’s The Rise of Skywalker feels explicitly crafted for the “Rian Johnson ruined Star Wars!” and “George Lucas ruined my childhood!” demographics, right down to its near erasure of Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico. It’s bad enough that adults no longer see grown-up movies in theaters, but now yesterday’s geeks who have taken over pop culture feel entitled to have the kid-friendly franchises aimed at them as well."

FACTS
I don't wanna see this right now but I don't wanna get spoiled. I need this to hit the bay so I can watch it at home on my own time
Been thinking a lot about the sequel trilogy and the series as a whole in terms of thematic desgining principle...
And for as much as I like TFA, if suffers from what I believe is its biggest problem (and it's not being a remake of ANH)
It's two totally unrelated movies thematically stitched together: one where the designing principle is a fun adventure movie about friendship and one where the designing principle is an intense action film about destiny. Abrams and Kasdan didn't find a way to bring these two together.
And the film not making up its mind on being an ensemble team film or being a film about a single hero is a result of this. The first X-Men does with Logan and Rogue what Force Awakens tried and failed to do with Rey and Finn.
2. A New Hope and Empire are so smooth and effective from a thematic designing principle standpoint because they're commited to being centered around Luke.
It's all about faith in A New Hope - faith in oneself (Luke's hero's journey), faith in the force (everyone), and faith in others (the core cast of characters getting over themselves to work together, which Ben Kenobi is the physical embodiment of and why it's necessary for him to die in order for them but mostly Luke to fulfill this faith). But it still comes back to Luke's progression...
Bringing us to Empire, which is all about perseverance. It takes where we are at the end of A New Hope which wasn't meant to have a sequel and smartly says "Okay, Luke now can use the force and the status quo has been changed, so how can he and the other heroes persevere with all the new challenges thrown at them?"
Movie not even out yet and it’s getting slandered to pieces
people judging the movie without even seeing it based off reading leaks is so corny
I have come to the conclusion that Ep 8 should've been essentially a romance film centered around a love triangle between Rey Finn and Kylo Ren. The core theme being love following TFA'S core theme of friendship would've been a natural progression much like T2's core theme of family being a natural progression from the Terminator's core theme of love, or one's own survival > protection of others (motherhood) being a natural progression from Alien to Aliens (shoutout Lessons from the Screenplay)
Fundamentally, setting two films side by side, each one with a contrasting and diametrically opposed philosophy (lineage and destiny vs the killing of idols) can only work if something is embraced about the latter. Something has to be learned. To backtrack on Johnson's entire ethos is to sequester the film from its place in the saga.
This trilogy taught me that nothing can change with Star Wars, which means it's going to be creatively dormant for a long time.

Never understood why people read leaks anyway tbh. It's the perfect way to ruin your own hype.
I'm pretty sure people were also reading leaks for Endgame before it came out, like what is the point??
I don’t think I’ve ever been this disappointed in a movie
at least not in a very long time
So I left the theater for not so long ago, and man....
This whole franchise in Disney's hands can party around the block now for all I care, and no, TLJ isn't much better. In fact in the grand scheme of things this whole trilogy's.... don't wanna beat it to the ground, but f*** is it bad lmao. This pains me to say, but never do I think that I've seen something as by the numbers or redundant as this. If you've seen the originals, you've seen it all. Is the film it self bad? Probably not, considering what it's jammed up against. Is it enjoyable? Very much so, I think the audience and (some) fans will have a blast. It's beautifully shot and got some of the best and most visually stunning set pieces I've seen in a while. It's a fun time (I guess).... long as you don't dwell on the SW logic and mythos too much
This is not Abrams fault, nor is it Rians. If anything the studio and the fans' to blame for as much. While TLJ didn't move the needle much further in this saga, this was a convoluted mess that would have benefited from a two-part and is in a sense the true sequel to TFA, for better or worse. It's a glorified Reddit post
Say all you want about the prequels but at least they kept a concise and coherent story. This trilogy however?

plot points generally don't make a movie interesting for me so I don't mind getting stuff spoiled. That being said I wont actively go out of my way to spoil stuff for myself

Micky Mouse forbid that someone who knows how to make an artful, creative movie take the helm on a beloved franchise
every shot in TLJ worked to serve the overarching themes
this had some pretty colors but felt like it was shot like any other Sci-Fi/Action movie
What a cluster f*** of a film
What a mess, worst of the 3....
lmaooo im hype just to see how bad it is
