Does Captain Marvel count as tied to an event? Crazy that it made a billion but it was sandwiched between Avenger movies
I would say yes, especially when looking at The Marvels. Same is true for Ant-Man and the Wasp imo
Both films came between events and they kind of promised to fill the audience in on aspects that were important to Endgame.
If we look at Quantumania and The Marvels, while the quality of those films didn’t help its insane to think that a sequel to a BILLION dollar movie ended up making 1/5 of the originals takings
I think overall this was pretty good. Milly and Jason are great in their roles and I feel like the movie was stronger when it focused in on Kara. Action was fine and this looked a little better than Superman for the most part. Not so thrilled about Krem and Ruthye, and the score sucked (like I can’t even remember any of it).
I still think Superman is a better movie but this is a good watch if you’re into the DCU or just comic book movies in general.
I agree with Krem, but thought Ruthye was great.
I agree with Krem, but thought Ruthye was great.
I feel like I needed more time with Ruthye if that makes sense. Like in the beginning to learn how she was before. The more I sit the more I think she wasn’t bad, but not fully realized.
I think I’d give it 7.5 or 8/10.
The needle drops were laughably bad lol. Especially the final one. Almost laughed out loud it does not fit. A couple others were pretty bad too. I liked the score though.
Ruythe was straight out of the comic to me. Supergirl was great. Really liked Lobo.
Overall I really liked how it looked but some of the flying shots were also laughably bad. There were liked 5-6 shots specifically that looked bad. It wasn’t too long of scenes though so I let it pass.
Ending was okay I liked how the comic did it more. Referencing the comic so much definitely didn’t help.
Superman was great in his scenes. The scenes on Krypton were amazing. Probably some of my favorite parts.
Also this is a weird nitpick but i wish they let her say f*** and swear like in the comic. Some of the dialogue was weird and felt off at times.
Liked it but definitely not as much as Superman.
The final bottle needle was very awkward. Like you said, it didn’t fit what was happening on the screen. Something harder would have worked.
The bit of the score that played when her dad put her in the escape pod was really good. I wanted to hear more of that.
I do agree. Some of it felt a bit sanitized. I figure they were trying to balance the movie having an edge with making it accessible to younger girls (I sat near one in the screening so). Lobo’s lines especially felt like that.
The humor worked. Some good some ehh. Nothing cringey offensive like some other companies lol.
I feel like I needed more time with Ruthye if that makes sense. Like in the beginning to learn how she was before. The more I sit the more I think she wasn’t bad, but not fully realized.
Yeah definitely could’ve used some more run time

‼️‼️
Also I liked how they got to the green sun planet wayyyyy more in the comic and how they handled it there but didn’t hate it in this
David Krumholtz does look like he could be Bradley Cooper’s brother so they knocked that casting out of the park here

That speech was fantastic
Nah they definitely f***ed up the final needle drop man I played 15 seconds of the original version and felt so much more from that

It was laughably bad lmao

And the fact that Zor-El inspired Kara to be good and that being a departure from his brother>>>>> Great stuff there. Shows how Kara and Clark get to the same conclusion on vastly different paths

It was laughably bad lmao
When someone does a re-edit of the scene with the original
When someone does a re-edit of the scene with the original
The action in that scene was fire though
The action in that scene was fire though
Which makes the song placement even worse lmaoooo
I also think nowadays critics are harsher on comic book films than say 2018
Like if this came out then it probably would be sitting at like a 75% RT
I do also think they should’ve leaned more on the visual aesthetic of the book. I understand it would’ve been more expensive most likely but it would’ve improved the atmosphere of the film

Yeah like it wasn’t bad looking but compared to the comic it was
