Video games have impacted sports, driving etc. video games may not increase violence but the knowledge of violence yes. The knowledge of weaponry 100%. Some kids first experience at a strip club was GTA. San Andreas exposed kids to gang culture. Etc etc.

The moment an individual can identify themselves within a character that’s the bridge to social programming. Personally, I don’t see video games having that deep of a character impact but like stated earlier, the exposure to ideas and such, yes video games do have an involvement in shaping certain aspects of life.

    All facts

I can call kill hookers on gta and not try to recreate that in real life. Why? Because i am mentally stable.

Ofc it's alienation more broadly but the isolation of individualism is one that is more key to this specific issue

You mean social isolation and individual competitive spirit such as that embodied in... Video games?

    Interesting

Oh ok, cool. I’m not from nyc but as far as the thread goes i think insercoolnamehere lives there.

What makes you say, essentially, that if you’re from nyc you know that more police equals more safety (as far as train platforms go, so I don’t twist what you’re saying)? I’m trying to understand why that is for that city specifically, to you. Cus I understand how people trying to map their other geographically police experiences doesn’t really work well (people itt comparing places in Europe for example).

I can understand you saying platforms only as you have itt multiple times. I think people getting caught up on is that if we don’t have evidence of it working in that specific context, when they use the closest context of that in stations or on the streets in general…they have evidence that justifies a lack of faith.

Im all for tryin stuff but obvi I don’t live there jus visit do not my day to day.

I’ve taken the train over a thousand times lol, I have never witnessed equal amounts of recklessness & violence in stations with a heavy police presence near the platforms versus those that do not have it. It is always the empty stations late at night or the ones with less foot traffic. And when an incident does occur, police handle it fairly quickly. I don’t want them sitting near the turnstiles catching people jumping. I couldn’t give a f*** if someone does that. Hell, I’d rather them make it free, and just spend all of their time ensuring safety on the trains & the behavior of people on the platform as a whole.

Word. Well I hope they do something, and do it well. We don’t need anymore reasons to be disappointed.

I just think that people, especially children, women, and lately especially Asian people should be able to utilize public transportation without the fear of being attacked or harassed. If it means having a few extra police officers on standby, I don’t know why anyone in their right mind would be against that. I’m all for reducing the police budget and reforming it into a system that focuses on the wellbeing of the general public over anything else. But we have to be real with ourselves and understand nothing meaningful will likely ever change for a long time.

More so the other way around i would say, video games are more another medium of culture than an influence on culture

I think it's both, they are their own medium of culture and they influence/reflect culture

Honestly I don’t think mainstream shooter games affect someone.

Fortnite, apex, cod, battlefront/field ain’t programming an individual. GTA might tho, especially them online environments

For sure but i think the causality is more in the direction of culture > video games

Video games just one form of media
