sidenote: matty’s writing is sounding a bit lacklustre compared to previous albums so far. Only track that’s really impressed me lyrically is If You’re Too Shy
Why the f*** is he putting on an accent
???
His voice sounds normal to me in the song.

I’m going to have to disagree with that. Complex lyrics don’t always mean good lyrics. ABIIOR had some songs with downright awful lyrics because they had random lines that sounded smart but weren’t or a lot of pretenious lyrics and more.
These singles have kept it simple so far, kinda like the first album’s lyrics which to me is a great.

He’s definitely putting on some weird american accent on the chorus and part with the “do you wanna come and get f***ed up” line
Ehh, not sure how I feel about this one. I don't hate it, but it doesn't really do anything for me, maybe it will grow on me. I've loved every other single though.

I liked the writing on ABIIOR, all over it pretty much
They’ve definitely kept it simple so far here, but maybe it’s the delivery that isn’t connecting? Matty can do monotone delivery pretty well and I love when he does, but isn’t hitting here for me
Me & You Together Song has grown on me but it still feels like a bad Busted-era pop-rock song

I thought the writing at least in the lyrical department was average at best on ABIIOR so I guess we just have different tastes. The simple lyrics of this album have me hyped rn. They all sound good and mostly have relatable lyrics as well which is huge. I couldn’t relate to many of the lyrics on ABIIOR

Don’t diss the GOAT song

It’s weird to me. On previous albums i’ve thought Matty’s lyricism is quite clever, authentically British and forthright which i LOVE but here it strikes me as pandering. If I had to guess why it feels like Matty as a person has outgrown what he writes about now? But i don’t him, just a feeling i get. On the accent bit - I’m from the same area as the band so I was proper thrown off by how the chorus sounds

They have much better songs in similar styles

I think I love MAYTS so much because I think that’s their best style and the song sounds on par with a lot of their other songs that have that same style. It’s like a return to form.
The allegations they had (well, towards the singer) didn't amount to anything substantial actually. Basically a communication error in the relationship he was in, no abuse/extreme misconduct went down (basically like with what occurred with Aziz, but incredibly even less troublesome)

He def has some sort of “twang” accent thing going on in parts of the song, I like it though I just assume it’s him playing a character within the song which isn’t anything new to him
They are really 7/7 so far on this album
Absolutely, they’re really shaping up to deliver possibly their best album yet but I feel like I say that a lot once the hype gets to me lmao
This is what I’m feeling so far related to ranking the songs from this album:
1. Me and You Together Song- SS tier, sounds like self-titled The 1975 which is my favorite sound from them. Relatable lyrics and very catchy.
2. Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America- SS tier, I really hope this song is acoustic on the album. The way Marty sang this was absolutely breath taking and the story telling in this song is incredible.
3. People- SS tier, The 1975 embrace the fact again that they are in fact a rock band. Love the heavier sound and hope we have some more songs on the albim like this. Lyrics and sound is very catchy. I debated putting People over JC2005.
4. Guys- SS or S tier, from the live videos I have watched I absolutely love the overall sound of the song and the lyrics definitely hit home and make you think about your own friendships that you have. The rhythm is infectious even though it’s soft and I really need the studio version ASAP.
5. Frail State of Mind- S tier, I absolutely love the electronic sounds but I wish the song had more lyrics. I think it works but could be even better if less of the song was just straight instrumental. I debated putting this over Guys but for now the Guys hype has caught me hard.
6. Too Shy- S tier, this song is an absolute bop. From the live videos I can tell this song will pop off like the upbeat songs on ILWYS. This song to me could be SS tier when I hear the studio version because I don’t really have any issues with it other than I’m not sure I enjoy the subject matter of the song.
7. The Birthday Party- A tier, I need more listens to this song but right now I’m feeling it’s the worst of the songs so far but I still love it. I’m still trying to dissect everything about the sounds and the lyrics but they seem to be quality work and I feel like the simplistic lyrics that we have seen so far from this album in general will be a positive rather than a negative. This song could move up tiers with more listens.

Based on what I have heard so far it most likely won’t beat self-titled for me but I could see it take 2nd. I’m loving everything about this album.

that's a good point, didnt think of it like that
what the f*** is this
Damn this video is weird as hell lmao
what the f*** is this
I find it funny that immediately after Matty releases a song with lyrics stating he’s not gay, then he goes and makes out with himself.
Video was not what I was expecting. Then again most The 1975 videos aren’t like normal videos.
