It’s a crazy world we live in today, at one point people spent this whole day watching movies. Honestly tho.. I have found myself on my phone during movies at the crib but I’m mostly researching more about the movie those rare times I do lol I’m unc now?
The move really is to put ur devices in another room while ur watching a movie
I can't always make myself watch something thats 1.5 hours i just gotta take advantage of the urge to watch a movie when I get it
Even though I wish I could just like sit down and watch one of the classics right then and there, I have to want to do it.
why even go to film school if you dont care about movies at all?
Lotta people go to school to do something they thought they'd like just to find out they don't
But also fitting art and certain concepts into a rigid curriculum sort of takes away a lot of the magic and tries to put it through a processor of sorts and i feel like this can sort of diminish art
Now let's just Google who shot Reservoir Dogs anddd
He decided to move to England to study at the National Film School under the tutelage of Morris from 1985 to 1988
And let's Google who shot PTA's first movies anddddd
Elswit studied film at USC in the 1970s
Not everyone who studies film becomes a director

Thats true, but if you dont ever watch movies (or haven't watched them since you were a kid) why pay loads of money to learn about film and the process?
I agree with your second point, but if you are into it its cool to learn about how it is made, what kind of different jobs outside of writer/director/actor and to watch movies with different kind of views.
⚠️ There aren't @sace s outhere forcing themselves to watch long ahh ancient movies anymore

sounds like you’re the type who watch the irishman like a miniseries
Kill all of them. Simple
I think this gets to a deeper point about the misconception that those who are in industry or film students automatically have the burning passion for viewing that fans do. They're professional programs like any other. People aren't spending all that money for the love of the game. They want a degree, elite school's professional networks, equipment, training tools, etc... You don't need film school to watch or study films. On top of that, these schools make it homework
These guys aren't all going to be directors or creative masterminds. Most will end up with run of the mill industry jobs and are being trained to do such. Even many top talent aren't necessarily cinephiles nor really watch films beyond studying for upcoming jobs
okay actually i read the article and its a real problem outside of film school too; last month i was watching the return of the king with my mom and she could not put the phone down. i talked her into it at some point but im absolutely sure thats how she watches most of them. s*** ten years ago it was a battle for me to sit through a movie without touching my phone, i got a bit better with it these days but i still slip all the time
my dad on the other hand recently sat through the ENTIRETY of JFK directors cut which is 3.5 hours and he did not take eyes away from the screen a SINGLE time. he didnt even go for a smoke or maybe he went once. and that movie they just f***ing talk alllllll the time. thats that old school attention span bro

Don’t agree with that second part at all. My experience with art school was more about just making sure you’re prepared when the magic will happen
But the idea of those ineffable moments and things were help pretty sacrosanct

Which top talent can you think of that is openly anti-film
Millie Bobby Brown is the only one that comes to mind for me and I would only consider her "top talent" in terms of popularity, certainly not skill

I didn't mean anti-film, more so they're practitioners rather than active film buffs. Most definitely watched films whether in school, early career, youth, etc.. but once they're deep in the profession they might not unless its necessary or might not feel compelled to because it interferes in their creative process.
I feel like some traditionally trained actors might fall within this since they didn't go to film school and might be more passionate about performance and technique itself rather than film or end product. Someone like like Denzel comes to mind here. Harrison Ford also admitted to never really watching many films.
Millie imo is a case of just being thrown deep into the industry before she might have naturally become a fan. Her experience honestly looks like it drains that joy
