game was so repetitive.
gallop on ur horse to ur next mission for 30 minutes
show up to mission, something goes wrong
get in huge shootout
gallop away while shooting at sporadic enemies
enter cinematic where Arthur yells at Dutch
repeat
I mean how is that any different from TLOU tho?
Cut scene - searching for items then fighting infected/armed men - another cut scene.
You know what I mean? Its the same, its just how the game goes. Plus its not just the main story/missions that are great, the side missions are def not repetitive imo, and just going around and exploring the game and doing the challenges like hunting animals and s*** was great.

Difference for me really lied in the gameplay itself, it was extremely stiff and some of the most simple things got over complicated and took too long. Like skinning animals, having to go to your horse to get the guns you want, setting up camp and cooking, etc.

yeah, the gameplay was complicated, but when you got the hang of it tho, its good. I didnt have much trouble with the gameplay itself after the first chapter, and the story itself was amazing..
but I get it tho.

its extremely different
TLOU is carefully paced to never feel repetitive in what you are doing, all while serving a great cinematic narrative around it. One minute you are watching a great story/performance unfold, the next you are solving a platformer puzzle, the next you are in a horror scenario trying to escape zombies in a dark room, the next you are stealthily plotting out an area to kill people, the next you are in a full out brawl/combat sequence. You even switch characters at a point to completely switch up the gameplay. There is even an entire level where the gameplay and narrative literally become one (the spring sequence)
With RDR2, yes in the beginning there is some elements of that with narrative and gameplay being fused and yes you have occasional stealth levels and one level involving you hunting down a bear. But for the most part, you really are just galloping into a story point or side mission that will involve you getting in a repetitive shootout with some random AI. There is very little switch ups at all, and about the only ones are just the initial allure of threatening a shop owner to get you into a random basement of his shop just so you can get into another repetitive brawl with people.
Also add the fact that RDR2 controls are absolutely abysmal (seriously trying to walk inside a house is so annoying), and the entire experience quickly wears off after the initial amazement at the graphics, different environments, etc. wear off
I remember for me, I was really enjoying about the first 6-7 hours of the game but after a while the missions quickly got boring and I started doing random s***, like trying to find a rare horse or hunting down legendary animals. But even that was just a short stint relatively to realizing the entire story is really just going to be repetitive s***ty shooting mechanics infused gameplay on trash AI.
Naughty Dog has honestly been the only studio to successfully create these movie games where the primary focus is the cinematic narrative but the gameplay is never nearly as repetitive as what so many creators ranging from a Kojima or Rockstar or whatever have recently been doing with their releases. ND knows exactly how to keep you hooked with every sequence that goes into the next that the gameplay never actually feels stale at any moment.
For those who have read the leaks, how do you still feel about the game? I’m curious to see how KTT feels because this place genuinely seems to be full of less losers than most sites. At least the 8 years I’ve been on here

idk I think this is better to ask once the game is out so people who have played the game can answer how they feel about the leaks
But if you look online about how people have felt about the game after reading the leaks, the reception is more positive than negative. Some youtubers who played it and a writer for WaPo said they went into it hating it but after playing it, they loved the game and they actually realized the things they didn't like from the leaks actually made sense and they actually liked it after hating it for so long
With that said, there are some critics who still did not like how the story unfolded but most of them even then said everything else was done so well that they would still recommend it and say it was good.
Be careful out there y’all. People are receiving their copies early so you know what that means......

Yeah I’ve seen the same, just the negativity surrounding the leaks and from what I’ve seen has me a bit worried. Still gonna experience it for myself and decide.

Makes me more excited to see it all play out with context

I am sure we will see a pretty significant backlash towards some of the story choices in this game, but it is interesting to me to see that a lot of critics have said that while they hated the leaks, the overall story made everything work out, and it isn't even just professional critics saying it but youtubers.
But yeah between ND not allowing any reviewer to talk about the last 12 hours of this game due to some huge twists and turns that happen and with a number of the cast members and creators saying they intended for this to be a divisive game, I won't be surprised at a good deal of hate for this within the gaming community.
The discussion around this game is going to completely change once people reach that second half. I will gladly eat my words if people show genuine appreciation for it.

That's a damn shame you gotta come to KTT to get some objective opinions
There’s legit spoilers everywhere now. Time to go dark folks. T minus 3 days (prob very slightly longer by the time I play it tbh)

Well the saddest part is that "fans" don't like their stories to take any sort of risks; that's why they were already mad by just reading plot points, they don't care about any context or nuance they just want the story to be fan service, the word "challenging" doesn't mean anything to them.
