Since Neil Druckmann said they think it maybe impossible to continue the story with the same characters. I think the next game need to move to another country and have a new protagonist. It also gives them a chance to make a new variant of infected that's mutated by a different region. Could also introduce that it's another person that's immune and that person actually already is a part of the antagonist faction, run it or it could be the protagonist.

Druckmann has also said he see's the idea of doing a totally new story in this universe, independent of Joel and Ellie, as cheating and almost the easy way out.

So I think this is it, beyond maybe Factions. Two gens of this and Uncharted is a long time.

Excited to see what they come up with for a new IP. And with them now working with PS5 devkits it seems the perfect time to start fresh.

I do really wish the game gave more time to characterize Dina and Jesse. Abbys world/characters felt so fleshed out, but those two felt like great characters who just didn’t get enough time to really shine

One of my fav parts was all the dialogue between Abby and lev. It felt like Joel and Ellie in tlou again. All the extra dialogue made sense as they were two people getting to know each other when Ellie/Dina and Ellie/Jessie were already established relationships. A ton of random small talk wouldn’t have made as much sense

unpopular opinion: if the game doesnt have ellie or joel in some form, i dont want it

Tbh their story has been told. It's really no reason to try and force them. I rather them move on to a new batch of characters if they continue it because this gaming world still has a lot of stories it could tell.

I mean this world still has a lot of stories it can tell. I feel like Ellie and Joel story is over but I'm completely on board with them moving it to another country and telling their tale. Neither game has ever touched on how the rest of the world is doing post apocalypse. We don't know if this was just a United States thing or if it was global. I say that because it's a artifact on the boat in Part 2 that details how there has been no sign of infection yet in Canada and that's where the crashed boat Abby was exploring was headed before the infection appeared on the boat and caused them to crash on the coast of Seattle.

some of the stuff that happens is shockingly poor, some of the stuff is really good

to me it all boils down to: "did this story need to be told"

and in my opinion the answer to that question is no.

they should have cut joel and ellie loose completely instead of trying to make this a direct narrative sequel. that would have been the proper tough decision.

what do ppl think about Joel and tommy letting their guard down around Abby?

I get complaints that it can feel out of character for them but doesn’t bother me. at that point in the game joel had confessed to ellie about st marys and it’d clearly been weighing heavy on him. same with prospect of Ellie forgiving him and them becoming close again. fact that Abby looks like ellie or emotional baggage from his dead daughter could have spurred Joel to step in and save her rather than leave her be and worry about themselves.

lot of ppl bring up the fact in a flashback that Joel rags on ellie about not wearing her mask and needing to always be careful but I think that was intentional and meant to be ironic. parents not heeding their own words. one of Joel’s lines is something like “all it takes is one slip up in front of someone you shouldn’t”

and that’s what happened to him. his act of kindness and good intentions got him killed. Fitting for the world they live in.

tommy giving away their names only feels dumb from perspective of players. They fought off the horde together and made wrong assumption that Abby and her crew were good guys. Joel really gonna need to go by a codename with every new stranger he meets? Gonna have to assume that they all could be ex fireflies?

if you think the ending up was bad you are literally stupid as f*** no other way to put it.

the game isn't black or white in fact the world of the last of us isn't black or white. saying this static thing happened and i'm not happy with it is such a cop out, there are so many intricacies to the plot and choices characters make.

    you are better than this

It didn't feel unnatural to me. Its made clear how Joel has mellowed over the years from the more paranoid, guarded character he is in the first. I think that contributes to it mostly, as well as being caught up in the moment having just escaped the horde. I don't think they were ever expecting Abby to flip on them having saved her life.

the issue is that the characters around abby only exist to serve as an extension of abby's character. The characters just aren't real enough in terms of what the player is presented with.

I think many of the criticisms are valid. You don't go on a murderous rampage on a group and expect nobody wants to off you. I get that it's 5 years later and he's been living comfortably in Jackson, which provides room for growth and being more trusting. But the setting and circumstances don't provide enough justification to being that friendly, imo.

If the justification is that Jackson has mellowed out our characters, then the writers didn't do a good enough job showing us that they've become the characters that would act in that manner. Joel standing in the middle of the room so vulnerable was incredibly frustrating for me.

The way they placed it was the best way. Having too many cutaways would have become annoying.

when you get the gas from the synagogue and dina tells ellie not to swear then proceeds to say,

"oh f*** yeah!" after you get the gas

also, dina calling ellie and jj "goobers"

Dina is easily the best character in this game. She’s so charming
