Yeah bro. I love this era because it’s like he is making the music he actually wants to again. Honestly, I didn’t like the Starboy and BBTM eras that much at all. But I’ve really been back on my stan s*** that I was on back in the days when everyone thought Weeknd was a band since AH dropped.

He’s now captured the fame from his ‘poppier’ days and is now able to leverage that into making the music that is true to his style again.

It’s beautiful.

Wanderlust is so beautiful though it’s hard to top. This single is great though. I love that moment from 2:29 (what would you call it in musical terms? Interlude?) - the vocals are heavenly af.

I fully agree bro!

While I don’t think bbtm or starboy by any means are duds. (Those are other artists best work if you threw it into their discography). It seemed like he was trying to balance abel and the weeknd musically. Since MDM, it seems like he hit a new creative peek and just fell in love with making music. Its crazy that a lot of us been here since the start to such an amazing career thats just begun tbh

Facts. His journey has been a masterstroke in artistic decisions from day one (arguably, KL was his only ‘mistake’ when factoring in the reception to it). The way he initially broke though the internet in the blog era was breathtaking. Everyone was shook when this MJ sounding band-named artist just popped out of nowhere as a veritable silhouette dropping d***gy-infused, hedonistic songs with the dissonant voice of an angel. It f***ed people up. I was sending it to all my friends and current GF at the time and we were just all totally enthralled. Bearing in mind MJ just died before only added to the mystique and narrative built around this character.

Then the reveal and the style to go alongside it. I remember him not ‘looking’ like his voice and that tripping people out.

Then the crazy hair that had all the white girls buggin.

Then the ‘compromise’ hit-maker era with Can’t Feel My Face (don’t like this song) Hills (still one of the greatest songs ever made even though the album wasn’t my favourite) the 50 Shades s*** to Starboy that you mentioned before with him trying to fuse and synthesise all his elements into a saleable end-product. Worked perfectly in getting him the fame and the bag at the right time.

Now we have him back on the ethereal darker s*** on the back of the superstar image that he has cultivated over the past decade whilst also capitalising on the massive retrofuturistic and poppy 80s aesthetic that has exploded recently (Stranger Things, everything neon, etc.) which just so happens to be closer to his KL sound at the same time (makes me wonder what would happen if KL dropped today… that s*** would win so many Grammies).

Sorry for stream of consciousness above. Not in the mood to structure my thoughts properly this morning. Just feeling really hype about this next album.

I love the passion man. It was beautifully written too, it just feels like he had it all mapped out from day 1. As an artist myself (well in the making cause Im still not ready to share my stuff to the world lol perfectonist), its like getting homework on what to do. Thats what having a vision + team does to you too. Its insane to think he dropped his best album in a decade and was like f*** it Imma make another classic cause Im feeling myself that much
