I believe the way back machine still has the original mixtapes up for download since Thursday has come up.

Early versions of The Weeknd mixtapes, the way they were meant to be listened.

New single is really good. Idk how I feel on him going for retro 80s funk pop again though idk. as much as the music is great I would’ve thought Abel would move onto a different theme by now. we have been getting 80s style r&b pop since like 2016 :/
holy s*** , pitch it down a bit and it's almost as legit
Some parts are so close
But the original already has this synthetic vocal quality to it (in the chorus ) so maybe a difficult one to nail

For the last time this isn’t 80s pop
For the last time this isn’t 80s pop
It’s pretty much useless trying to explain that to some people lol, their palettes are very small to the point where any synths they hear is just 80s pop or blinding lights

The thematics and sound signature is heavily inspired by the same things that inspired his previous records (Starboy & Afterhours) . Call it what you want it’s still stagnant.
Not saying the music is bad, but Abel explored way more sounds from HoB to BBTM. From Starboy to now the only record that had a different mood/sound influence is MDM.

AH had many sounds. Not sure why people keep saying AH had the same 80s synth sound. AH was more than BL.

I can even name two songs off of the top of my head that are genre bending
Hardest To Love: DnB/Liquid Funk
Too Late: UK Garage/00's RnB (notably Timbaland)
