Yes they would be hits cause the compositions are strong, it’s not about content

    No they would not.

Just like Doo Wop (aka respectability politics: the anthem) would 110% not have been a hit today.

We are only talking biased because we can only talk from a perspective where we experienced all these songs being hits but if they never existed, niggas would be clowning Marvin's Room for being "too slow" and niggas would be calling Kendrick a narc for Swimming Pools and it would only be respected in their individual niches because the audience has been so fractured.

  • BRAVE

The last time we had compositions as strong as Marvin’s Room and Swimming Pools was from some of the pop hits in 2024. A new rapper is 10000% blowing up in this era with a composition as strong as one of those

If anything it was harder then cause we were getting way stronger compositions like clockwork - today those would be by far the strongest compositions out

    What was that hit lol.

What are yall niggas talking about

It has been almost a decade, folks have made "hittable" music, the audience is just too fractured lmao.

    Yeah there's some truth here

The way we talk about and consume music is another reason for this, especially with hip hop and if it's trending or not

This is part of what I was trying to get at.

It seems like everybody across all subgenres of rap is making vibes and loops instead of real deal songs rn

Yes the song about gender dynamics wouldn’t be a hit in 2026

And again when was the last time we had a composition as strong as doo wop in ANY genre

  • insertcoolnamehere

Crazy the biggest buzz from all generations seems to be from the big 3 still.

    Very sad state of affairs.

MUSIC really the definition of came and went btw

    Famjam4000

Gave you catchy melody, hook, and a bridge, and a modulation at the end.

There are compositional hits being made that are not just loops but the problem is the audience doesn't receive music the same way they received it back in 1998

  • I feel like in the 2000s early 2010s you could listen to drake, kendrick, Kanye, Wayne, hov, future, ross, Lupe, Waka Flocka, Gucci, etc etc and everybody got along great

When the "conscious rappers" would be on the same tracks with the mainstream rappers etc and everybody got along

Feel like since 2016 or so the audience got a lot more divided and has only continued to splinter since lol
