USA English and its forms/dialects are a lot of people’s first and only language. any other accent (which emphasizes vowels differently, USA AEIOU is different from 99% of the world lol, or these countries English speakers don’t roll Rs for certain words due to again vowels) is not going to be easy to understand
I don't really think this tracks across all English accents in America vs UK, southern American states especially derived their speech from Older English.
Not to mention that it seems everyone can understand American accents including obscure ones easier but not vice versa.
If a Cali dude can understand Baltimore or Texas, I don't see how London or Birmingham should be an issue personally.

Borough of culture for sure

I definitely understand London accent easier than some southern accents
I think that's an extreme case tho, some of the mumble rappers are literally mumbling lol, otherwise they are understandable
Historically, New York/up north media and rappers s***ted on the south and was saying they couldn’t understand them. Even attached their accent to their lack of intelligence. So very common for their to be a divide in people in America not tryna hear what people with heavy southern accents are saying
this cheeks just hand yaself in lil bro

This is what i've kinda been alluding to / been suspicious of, that it's always been some sorta pretentious superiority complex rather than really being a matter of not understanding.

For sure a superiority complex thing but if you let them tell it they can’t understand. With that being said, if you really in the south fr, it is some insane accents that you might have to ask “huh” a few times to understand
I respect it tbh
The way he's going about it I don't see him staying out for long tho unfortunately lol
