it's paywalled but i put the entire recipe into this imgur link LOL
    https://imgur.com/5Clohgy

https://www.177milkstreet.com/stories/best-stuffed-cabbage-rolls the intro to it, it's based on some croatian lady's recipe and meant to mimic her lacto-fermented cabbage cabbage rolls... though i suppose u cld lactoferment them if u wanted to
it probably is better w savoy cabbage as some of the leaves were still p tough, but still really good. the vinegar adds a looooot of flavor i think missing from a lot of cabbage rolls ive had

also i used medium grain rice and i dont think i cld possibly notice a diff

this is clutch thank you. prob gonna make next week.

    making a princess cake!!!

    taking forever
-nearly flopped the diplomat cream (i forgot 1 egg yolk and then had to try to add it but it cooled to quick n got lumpy when i tried to mix it up, blender saved)
-nearly flopped the marzipan (i didnt read and kept stirring the sugar syrup and then didnt tare the almond flour so lowkey dont know how much i added)

but i now have assembled half the cake (sponge jam and diplomat layers)
just need to make the whipped cream, make a buttercream, dye and roll out the marzipan, top the cake in cream plus marzipan
    decorate w buttercream

Nah something about them turns me off

Only time onions are cool are when they’re cut super tiny in the making of another food (burger meat/chilli) or onion rings

Otherwise I don’t get near them

    summer in ny vibes

    :0)))))) go knicks

new myka window, its marked on google map half a block right of union sq but no reviews, allegedly less popular since its a ''secret'' location but still had to wait 20 min for froyo
    hojicha + original swirl
    blueberry sauce and their kataifi
    kataifi was so good
i think their original yogurt is like really smooth and creamy but not tart enough, while i think mimi's og is way too tart
i think culture ans tart is good, buttefields is good. i dont really like flavored froyo but the hoji was nice. i just want tart sweet crisp froyo w really good fresh fruit or fresh fruit sauce LOL thats all i seek for froyo. i do think their berry sauce was too cough syrupy for me, but again, i think the kataifi is the standout. and ig a non tart froyo works well w the kataifi bc its so nutty and mild

got the caffe panna mango sticky rice w mango soft serve + sticky rice arancini
i feel like i generally dont like mango ice cream (not mango-y enough ever) and the arancini had an oily flavor but not much else
however, the toasted coconut was yum. overall, just ok/not worth a line contrary to ig posts

mam opened a new brekky spot called phe, 30 min wait when we got there 12:30 since their first seating sat at 12, but died down when we left around 1:30

serving coffee (no wait walk right in) and banh mi chao w homemade bread
bread is super excellent, best viet bread in nyc potensh (tho need to side by side w the banh an em/com tam ninh kieu group's, it really is j sooo crispy and fluffy inside).

harrys berries strawb slush w matcha drizzle from gem home

it was fluorescent colored in irl it was freaky. good and super concentrated strawb and white choco matcha flavor... its just that the strawb was sooo concentrated it was like a bit overwhelmingly sweet and tart. Matcha was good tho, generally not a fan of white chocolate matcha but it was concentrated matcha dlavor and little sweetness
they have some more fruit slushes coming out but its so pricy compared to the nieves guy in my neighborhood and i cant imagine much yummier
honestly kind of mad he closed gem wine still :////// havent been to cove yet his new fine dining establishment but it looks a bit too michelin/hors d'oeuvre coded for me to really want to visit soon

matcha affogato w milk bar cereal milk ice cream

lastly some restos n other stuff

kings kitchen in chinatown--cheap and open past midnight. tried their salted pork and egg claypot rice, v good.
i tried their bbq rice before and it was mid compared to hey hey roasted and a bit more $$ but they take card

stinging nettle pasta--i did a white ragu the next day w it

last somtum der run :(((( we sat next to the owner she was sooo sweet aaa said shes moving back to thailand to be w her mom and spend time w her

coke slushie soft serve float from slik
if i posted this already im sorry LOL but i dont think i did
really good on a hot day, the soft serve is really good w vanilla bean. i wish the slushie coke was fizzy still but it isnt which i guess is fair

yoon haeundae galbi for kbbq in ktown -- soooooo good i do like their galbi a lot tho some ppl say its like american leaning in palate (a bit sweeter or something) compared to their og korea location but i thought it was v good. meat was extremely tender, banchan selection not bad (though charged for lettuce). i didnt like their tteokbokki (it was seafood since its a spot from busan ig but was more seafood and random things than tteok, and the tteok was deep fried unexpectedly) but the naengmyeon was nice. i do think their meat quality is better than a lot of other ktown spots, not sure against nubiani or some of the higher end spots doing wagyu exclu since i havent tried with the exception gaonnuri (good views, mid bbq) or ig cote

also went back to the kbbq spot with the grandfather kimchi bulgogi and got duck bbq this time
still soooo fire and their banchan is like almost overly good -- volcano egg, raw marinated spicy crab, fried potato tempura, etc just as banchan for whatever u get

kum sung bbq in murray hill--far but veryyyy worth

yedang which is even farther into murray hill

duck bbq back to back w this shaved ice spot made me really feel like i was in korea again it was hella uncanny
i really regretted not getting traditional red bean bingsoo while in korea (only got a fig and honeycomb one which was still v yum) but this completely satisfied my itch. they also make various sticky rice things but theyre all oddly oily LOL i liked the mugwort one it was super mugworty but just wish it was not oiled up like a freak. their yakgwa was good though, id get again

made sloppy joes (can add recipe if ppl want)

ive been seeing reels of ppl making basque style chip stuff so did one w pureed tomato, parm, greek pepperoncini, pancetta and an egg
i liked it i just dont think ill have this craving till a yr from now lol

soft hours tea house--i liked their teas (tie guan yin was rly good) and the yokan (housemade by pastry chef janice sung)
but its sooooo busy and packed. i wish it were more like te in w vill w a calm chill peaceful vibe but it is in fact overly popping rn. may j bc it just opened tho

  • finally, dean's!!
fish n chip (not as good as dame)
scotch egg (rly good scotch egg)
guiness bread (good but its bread)
    stargazy pie!!!!

never googled whats in this since i wanted it to be a surprise. the fish head and tail is performative, its basically just a chowder inside but instead of clams or something its diced fish
crab w crumpet, and a bubble and squeak pasty in the far back
beef liver w bone marrow and peas. soooo delicious the marrow was so good w the beef liver (which was cooked really well)

their crisps were mid--think it was parsnip but idk if it was j humidity or just bc its a parsnip, it felt like jerky and not crispy.
girls at the table next to us also had the same complaint
i also felt their lemon posset was skippable --i like lemon posset but only a little bit at a time.. plus its so easy to make at home lol
next time will try the ginger pudd
