was this your parting gift? black eye and bloody lips..
ten years from now i still remember every words

    this s*** too relatable...

yeah rivers LOVES doing this combination, in fact if you listen back to island in the sun which is always like played in movies or on tv stuff as happy theme and s*** is actually a pretty sad song: he only sings about that ideal paradise island in the sun as hypothetical, only using the verb “we’ll”

“and i wanna feel it too..”

it really shows itself at the very end when he sings as a distant echo fading away: “we’ll never feel bad anymore..” revealing how much he (and the other person involved?) are hurting bad in the current situation, in the present, this whole island is just daydreaming away from the pain

that’s why it’s therefor a very overlooked hit song

    goat video too lol

    @grimes @Womanpuncher69 @RVI

3/3 strike dont worry there’s way more where that came from

I think im ready for a full album now pleighboy.....

most of the songs ive sent you are more recent weezer sounding material so maybe id recommend the white album first (it has do you wanna get high? on it) i feel today the album is a great middle ground for new comers, you get the modern more pop songs and produced sounds of the band and creative new stuff

but it also puts in some serious throwback traditional oldschool weezer vibes like la girlz which is total blue album mood and do you wanna get high? which is super pinkerton

so it helps get familiar before attacking those classics where if you first go to blue or pinkerton especially when you know first their more popular pop songs it can take a listen or two to get into the 90s energy and more raw attack

and really the white one of their best, lives up to their golden days and there’s no skips

funny story that video was shot right when mikey welsh (rip) went through rehab, matt sharp was almost brought as a replacement (but just for the video alone)

i remember also reading about rivers playing longtime sunshine on the set on an acoustic guitar to spike jonze, very surprising and out of the blue, wonder if he was trying to work on that song again maybe

longtime sunshine was for a long time my fav weezer song ever 🥵

this clip alone where he harmonies to it is so beautiful to me still..

they eventually finally premiered it live in 2011 with a solo section and a more rocking outro

josh freese on the drums! known for his work with a perfect circle, NIN..

I checked out the blue album a while back. Pretty good. And I saved some joints from that Ye x Weezer mashup album

white has dope callbacks to the blue, it’s still a switch from going from that one to the other bc the eras and prods are so different, it’s like listening to a modern classic kanye or if you got into him thru that and going back to some of the early albums, same sensation but once you break free and capture the energy as it is, it’s just that good - imo blue is like top 90s album oat

it’s just the perfect combo of smart songwritting with enough knowledge but still making it fun and keeping it light, never too serious but never not enough, it’s a balance far greater to achieve than just being straight out serious das band or total fun band if that makes sense

haha that yeezer mashup still goes if the dude would update it he would have so much more to pick from now!

i think van weezer is shaping to be as good as the white so you might wanna check it out, if it ever does end up coming out

What other albums would you say are their essential must listens?

What other albums would you say are their essential must listens?

pinkerton - the cult favorite, the most angst of their catalogue, very rich musically but can take some listens to digest, very intense and raw

green - the anti pinkerton, ultra accessible and light “early beatles with loud guitars” they say, some of their biggest hits, feels right at home if you’re familiar and like other rock albums from early 00s

everything will be alright in the end - the comeback album, conceptual, has lots of nice classic weezer sounding tracks

    bonus personal favorite pick:

pacific daydream - i like to put ppl onto it, it’s working on ktt and there’s much more fans than i thought there would be as it was hated when it came out when i think it’s one of their best, no skips for me, ultra current modern production yet so faithful to the roots of the band too, pop but so weezer in the writing and callbacks, very diverse and colorful, catchy and never dull
