90s rappers did not do it "all the time" compared to modern rappers. Night and day. Guys will go in the studio and make the whole song up a punch in at a time.

hence "just not commonly as a stylistic choice". big part of this is cuz they were recording on a***og and off the dome wasnt as common in studios.

side note, freestyling off the dome thru punch ins and writing a whole verse then rapping it involve dif processes and skillsets btw it isnt like someone who does one is now skilled and not the other lol. People might even do a one take to figure their verse out then punch in the parts they like, or punch in then rap it in seperate long takes or one long take its just about what effect you want. I don't think yall have rapped in the studio much before to care about this distinction lol raps come together in all types of ways. Any time i punch in a verse its something i rap in one whole go when i make the video and theres times i did one whole verse written then punched in parts of it to make it sound better it's just a tool.
