and after covid? forget about it. everyone became chronically online for years, even people who’d never touched social media before. my grandmother has burner accounts. there is a niche feed specifically tailored per person. no two people see the same things.
"my grandmother has burner accounts" is such a crazy sentence lol
I swear to god if people dont let this braindead, Christopher Columbus ass "i think monoculture is over guys" topic die
Yea but what i meant is the media that algorithms are used for are effectively promoting info in a similar way to traditional media
Theyre both biased based on selling narratives
Yeah no s*** they’re used for the same ulterior purposes. What kind of points do you people think you’re making
The point is that they function very differently from cultural institutions of the legacy era and it shows in the cultural landscape of the west.

i do believe as time goes on everything we experience will be even more personalized to ourselves but everytime there's a technological shift what existed before that becomes cool and desirable again
Ice-Man was kinda hyped up for awhile but also came after a two year peak with the beef, a bunch of okay-lukewarm Drake music released, and otherwise no one really talking about him outside maybe callbacks to the beef
It’s not really the same at all, again some of it is Drakes actions and his career trajectory but also a lot of it is just people are tapped out of hip hop, no general serious hip hop blogs, social media being more fragmented, etc and a lot of that isn’t drakes fault
comparing iceman to views is like comparing TLOP to graduation. both huge moments that people came together for

My perspective is that the dissemination of information and the way its interpreted are 2 seperate things
In the past and present we are given info, which is biased based on source, but the number of sources varies over time
However there are usually only a handful of relevant perspectives for any piece of information and that hasnt changed and there has ALWAYS been media that supports multiple perspectives i.e. fox news vs msnbc or even back to newspapers having different companies with different biases
So basically the idea that only in modernity do we see this splintering of perspectives is false. There are 2 layers to this 1. The media source and 2. Cultural/social biases. Layer 1 has changed but not as much as i think youre suggesting and layer 2 has always been about cultural identity that also hasnt really changed

Yes but neither TLOP or Iceman occupied a more unifying prescence within pop culture at the time they dropped compared to their predecessors which was my point, not just a simple “it’s popular people coming together”
Graduation was probably the biggest album in 2007 and it was only fighting for dominance really against 50s album mainly and Jay Z
TLOP was huge but it also shared a more fragmented space with people’s attention and discourse with albums like Views, Blonde, Culture, Birds, 4YEO, heck Lemonade. Even Kanye himself wasn’t as universally popular as he was compared to his Graduation era. You aren’t really disputing what I’m saying
Idk what youre talkin about but i wanted to add jus cus im smart dont mean i wouldnt slap the s*** outta you irl
Ur puss
