Between TPAB and DAMN eras, developing tracks like the OG version of Element. He was locked in at the time and would be a nightmare to battle.

Drake would have been less overtly stupid in 2016, but he would have had less material to work with. So would Kendrick. The general public didn't have the same weird vibes about Drake in 2016.

I think 2016 Kendrick stomps Drake out with bars and doesn't crack a smile doing it, but 2016 Drake's hitmaking ability prevents a clear winner in the eyes of the public. Kendrick won decisively in 2024 because he had bars, hits and great timing. 2016 would be closer mainly because Drake was a better overall songwriter back then.

the reason why drake in 2016 would win the beef is simply because people didn't hate him as much back then. there wasn't nearly as much drake fatigue, he was only running rap for like 5 years at that point.

objective listeners know drake outrapped kendrick in 2024. he had actual rebuttals, didn't use prerecorded tracks, was just going about it as a battle. kendrick went into it with clear ulterior motives and it was the right time to do it because the public was ready to turn on drake. that's why it went the way it did.

Drake is one of my favorite artists, he has been since around NWTS, I wouldn’t say i’m a “stan” though, I don’t like everything he does and I don’t like all his music but what I do enjoy from him, I prefer to most hip hop artists.

I used to love Kendrick as well, I played the s*** out of Section 80 and GKMC for a while, hell I was even bumping Overly Dedicated lmao. At release I thought TPAB was great but over time I’ve just grew off it, I thought DAMN was noticeably worse than anything he’s done, I actually love most of Mr. Morale but literally EVERYTHING he’s done since (aside from Euphoria) has just done nothing for me. The weird sound effects and how different his voice is now is actually a big factor, stop worrying about all these onomatopoeias and goofy ass noises/voices and just make a f***ing song

TPAB is my favorite album ever. For one jazz is my favorite type of music aside from rap so a lot of the jazz inspired production deeply moves me, but then I relate to a lot of the themes on that album especially the song u thats one of my personal favs. I love DAMN. too those are honestly probably my 2 fav Kendrick albums

Drake is also a top 10 rapper for me, Take Care is one of my favorite albums ever too and I basically loved everything he made until around Scorpion. I still fw some of his new music like i really liked her loss but yeah I guess I just don’t really relate to his stuff as much anymore

At release I thought TPAB was a perfect album, but I was also 16 and mostly listened to just hip hop lmao. Over the years I realized that’s not what I want to listen to, it’s a cool concept album and I appreciate the messages, the themes, and the representation of it but I have movies, tv shows, documentaries, and books for things along that line. I just wanna hear music that doesn’t try to be something more than just that, it’s an outlet for creativity and has the ability to put people in certain moods, I prefer that to be one that leans more towards euphoria.

I already got enough bullshit to deal with in life, i’m already stressed the f*** out constantly and sad as s***, I listen to music to get lost in a world of just feeling better in that moment, not dwelling on how f***ed the world is. I think that’s why Drakes music hits so hard for me, I use music as a way to boost my mood or tap into my emotions, I listen to all kinds of genres so I appreciate that I can go listen to something heavy as s*** in metal core, lighthearted in pop, mellow in alternative/indie, catchy in country, smooth in R&B, and then go listen to Drake and get those same feelings all throughout one album.

I find comfort in listening to Kendrick’s music especially the older I get, it feels really good knowing there’s someone dealing with similar things I’m dealing with & it especially helps that I like the sound pallet he uses along with that

I like music for escapism too and Kendrick isn’t really that great for it and that’s probably one of his weaknesses because it is nice when an artist can balance and do both like Kanye or Jay Z but but it does get kinda off putting for me when an artist doesn’t have anything that moves me emotionally or even worse when they have sentiments I straight up do not like / agree with which is a problem I started running into with Drake the older I got

I actually like the concept of Mr Morale, hearing Kendrick talk more about family, his religious views and his mental health was nice. I hated it the first few times I heard it but I kept going back to it and finding more and more that I could appreciate and enjoy, I think that’s why his new s*** bothers me so much.

He is a great song writer with great subject material and he just abandoned that for whatever that bullshit is on GNX

how i feel about the new drake albums

I can understand that honestly, Drake went from being the relatable rapper that made people realize it was okay to show every side of you to being the one your average person can’t relate to, talking about problems most of us will never even have, being paranoid and shaping his music around that and thinking he had to lean into every sound he’s made his career out of on every album.

So on the surface I can actually fully comprehend why people don’t like Drake anymore, but the music sounds good to me and he didn’t just abandon everything that made him Drake to begin with, there’s still sprinkles of it all over his discography. What I appreciate about his music is he just makes what he wants to, if people don’t like it, it doesn’t make him change his sound or try to reinvent himself.

I like when artists know who they are, what they like and don’t care how anyone feels about their art and continue to make what they want, s*** like HNVM coming from someone who has made songs that are on the complete opposite end of the spectrum is just cool to me. I don’t think most rappers do versatility as well as Drake so there’s something there that I can’t get from other popular artists in the genre
