addiction a different game than cheating, and op said his brother an alcoholic and on them pills. anyone who knows addicts or has been an addict will tell you that s*** hijacks your morals completely. your body starts to express a need thats greater than treating your own family with respect.

that being said, nobody in here knows the nitty gritty of op's experiences with his brother and the pain thats been inflicted, so I dont think people should be telling him he's a bad person for not helping his brother. just important to acknowledge that addiction, especially to alcohol and pills, can put people in loops and patterns that are damn near inescapable without intervention.
