im a software engineer and there’s something within programs with how dates were stored and calculated that when it went past 1999 it would break and have completely wrong dates which is why people were afraid the banks would collapse. at one of my software engineering internships i fixed an issue once where with a certain date range it would return the wrong date and f*** up scheduling in some areas. so y2k compliance is actually a thing but it’s not a standardized thing it’s doing better testing
