In the grand scheme of things a shock collar isn’t THAT bad for a dog. They normally have it fitted where it startles the dog (which is why they yelp) rather than cause pain.

I had to have a dog trainer as my dog is pretty aggressive. We use something called a bonk where it’s just a rolled up towel. When he gets aggressive you throw it at the dog which startles them to stop as they are confused.

That’s just a soft item to distract them. We were recommended a dog collar also but I didn’t feel comfortable using it but I have been told it’s safe and won’t cause serious harm to the animal.

You can reason with a human and try to find some understanding without resorting to anything else.

I hope no one has to deal with an aggressive dog. It’s heartbreaking as an owner and potentially an outcome where you need to put it down as it can’t be trusted/controlled.
