  • this year (for me) proved that millennials are the last generation that can preserve rap/hiphop: anyone born after 2000 can not and will not produce/consume music how millennials did and in result changes the climate of music.
this generation is more unique than ever because theres no more mono culture. no more grassroots or key sources for material just algorithms and brain rot.

the good thing is, niche communities is the new wave so if youre into some lyrical s*** theres a whole world for you out there. the likelihood of you sharing that world with your friends and co workers is probably nil tho

I think the death of Juice Wrld, Pop, and X really impacted the wave of the new generation of mainstream rap.

A foregone conclusion when X, Juice and Pop all died.

The legends are losing their minds / putting out dog s***.

Cole and Drake have been infected by the Jay Z syndrome and have creatively run out of fresh ideas.

Kendrick ain't about to carry the genre given the type of music he elects to make and quite frankly the beef is the only reason he's on top, were people actually spinning Mr. morale?

And then beyond that, there isn't any new sustainable talent. Most of the women are doing the same old over sexualization swan song or just getting their money via pop.

But hey at least we have KPOP Demon Hunters, Morgan Wallen, and whatever tik tok star is trending this week.

genres can't sustain forever. rock and roll never again reached the heights of the 60s and 70s. not that good rock bands didn't exist after that but it was never the same.

hip hop in the 90s and 00s and into the 10s (not sure exactly where to draw the dividing line) was incredible but it cant last forever. no musical genre can stay that good forever

Its funny how 2017 and 18 are considered great years now because for me they were already start of the slow decline

2016 was the last year I really enjoyed for mainstream hip hop. By 2017 it was taken over by depressing xanned out trap s*** that only sounded cool driving around at night

I like Rodeo as much as the next guy, but that album gave us 3 years of unimaginably boring clones

We should push Lucy Bedroque towards stardom

2016 was a good year but I think its two biggest albums TLOP and Views were an indicator what was about to happen. Both albums are a step back from prior albums for both artists quality wise. Both of them are bloated and more focused on streaming numbers and hit records. Kanye and Drake still made that work but most can't and that's how we got albums like Culture 2.

  • Niggas is tired of the emo/trap rapper and the trap/gangsta rapper s*** over saturated at this point we need another surgents of elite new comers like 2009-2012

Back in the day it was like you had so many different types of sounds that were MAINSTREAM. You had your A$AP Mobs, your odd futures, your mmg/ymcb s***. It was all different and had a lane. Everyone new that gets popping is just doing what carti/yeat did.

the only people there that were mainstream were mmg/YMCMB

Odd Future was an Internet music group and the mob was like TDE, very regional until Rocky did F***ing Problems, so you’re a***ysis is still off. just do better research today twin

    Nah I was there
Tumblr, live mixtapes, two dope boys, SoundCloud YouTube etc acted as distributors
By the time they dropped a single and debuted they were well known in the right circles just needed features to reach the masses I.e. f***ing problems

Fashion Killa is mainstream, the nigga got a popstar in the video and was a fairly known name by then. Peso was a huge song by an incoming future star who wasn’t mainstream yet. I’d say Goldie is when s*** really started shifting for Rocky mainstream wise cause that video was everywhere
