i don't really agree, i don't see how their (non-posthumous) albums were far ahead of their contemporaries. like if i take a juice wrld album and a trippie redd album, they feel like a similar level production and writing wise to me (though i do give credit to juice for having a better pop sensibility). i don't see those 3 making albums that were sonically, lyrically, or content-wise on par with previous generations' stars. i don't doubt that they could still be relevant but i can also imagine a world where they follow a polo g type of path.

also i know its a generic thing to say but juice and xxx music does not hit the same way once you're past your teens/early 20s.

I never called black people hood rats. You're the one that associated the word hood rats with black people because you have little self respect or any semblance of self esteem.

I said nba youngboy makes music for brain dead hood rats and I was more of a fan of uzi and Cartis music than youngboy. You're the one who said I was referring to black people. This is now the 3rd or 4th thread where you've tried to get me banned or attacked for saying something I never said.

Just shut the f*** up already, don't quote me again and goto therapy bro, that's your only hope

NBA Youngboy has a primarily black fanbase and that’s not even taking into account the word hoodrat itself is a term directed at black people

I don’t want you banned but what you said was def racist lol. It’s just funny you think c***is wrong but don’t see an issue with what you said.

And more people than just me said what you said was racist

Fashion Killa is mainstream, the nigga got a popstar in the video and was a fairly known name by then. Peso was a huge song by an incoming future star who wasn’t mainstream yet. I’d say Goldie is when s*** really started shifting for Rocky mainstream wise cause that video was everywhere

i feel you but i think there's more nuance than mainstream/not in that era, cause it's hard to say something is not at least on the frigne of "mainstream" when mixtapes could get a million downloads in a day and got coverage from mainstream sources like the new york times.

i view it as not every mixtape was mainstream but there could be mixtapes that were mainstream.

the only people there that were mainstream were mmg/YMCMB

Odd Future was an Internet music group and the mob was like TDE, very regional until Rocky did F***ing Problems, so you’re a***ysis is still off. just do better research today twin

    I don't know fam.

I remember me and my friends discussing episodes of Loiter Squad while being addicted to the Yonkers music video(and song).

That's pretty mainstream to me even though they weren't making radio hits or going Plat like that.

We lost a lot of the "bridge generation" aka X, Pop, Juice etc. so now there's a huge disconnect between older Millenial rap (Drake, Lil Baby, Trav, etc) and younger Gen Z rap. There's no crossover whatsoever because each literally exist in their own bubbles.

What went mainstream back in 2020 got frozen in time because the artists who were supposed to really push the mainstream forward either died or fell off hard. Very few rappers actually moved the needle between then and now.
