Some of the best albums of the decade are:

-Clipse album from 2 45+ year olds that’s likely not even their best
-Kendrick morale album that’s not even in his own top 4
-Nas albums that aren’t close to prime Nas
-Freddie Gibbs/Westside Gunn albums. Nothing bad to say about these—but these are middle class rappers..at best lol
-Donda, not even a top 8 Ye project
-bunch of lesser known projects that don’t get any shine in the mainstream.

This is about the mainstream. When complaining about the quality of the genre—it’s always about the top. The underground/middle class of rap has always been fine. It’s the top that leads the way, though.

Then the retort is always “there’s so much good music, you just don’t know where to find it”. No s*** bruh, I grew up and good music was EVERYWHERE. On TV, the radio etc.. you didn’t have to go on a scavenger hunt to find good music. If you think this era is “pretty good” or “not that bad”. Just compare your top 5 favorites from this era with any top 5 of any other era. It ain’t een close lol

    Hold up.

Which projects do you consider "prime Nas" because, while none of the Hit Boy albums hold a candle to Illmatic/IWW/Stillmatic, I would EASILY say that the albums are better than I Am, Nastradamous, HHID, Untitled, and Street's Disciple.

And I'd say that the best ones like KD2, KD3, and Magic are musically on par with God's Son and Life Is Good at the very least.

I do prefer previous decades of hip hop barring maybe the 80's to 20's hip hop, especially when it comes to mainstream output.

But there's still been a lot of great projects this decade. Here's a topster of a sample of good albums from this decade.

All due respect--none of these albums crack the top 10 of the previous 2 decades imo. Hell, not even top 15 for me.

Kendrick alone has 4 albums better. Every Drake project pre 2015 is better than any after. Every Kanye project pre 2018 is better. Nas has multiple albums better, Lupe too. Travis too. Even Future.

Hell I can make a strong case that for all artist on this image with multiple albums---none of these on the image are their best. None lol

Just compare this image of the top albums with any other decade and its clear as day we are in the mud rn

Again---if the music was great, I can give it a pass. But the music is the worst it's ever been PLUS no commentary about anything thats happening in the real world right now. Genre has lost its way and its only getting worse

Kanye, Common, Eminem, Ice Cube etc.. we’re still making social commentary raps in the 00s and even into the early 10s.

    You know?

Now that you mentioned it, it is funny how Bush and Obama made more rappers go "woke" than Trump and Biden.

Only 5 albums from this poster is above average imo: Kendrick, Clipse, Drake, Carti and Nas. Nothing special about the rest

yh but even that's still like 20 years ago now and it was becoming rare even then. even by graduation kanye was barely speaking on that stuff anymore and common and cube were making movies.

the truth of it is that hip hop is too accessible and accepting of this bullshit
