    Oh I gotcha bubs

Good thread though my friend. Unfortunately we’re just in an unprecedented time of music not mattering as much especially within hip hop. The beef the straw that broke the camel’s back

    Literacy in general my man.

ATL becoming the capital of hip hop was truly the beginning of the end. Should've never left NY or the West

Jeezy and TI were actual literates tho

Buncha dumb motherfuckers down South so it's not a surprise once they took over mainstream rap started to get dumber.

Eff it ima just start quoting myself lol

“I’m simply pointing out the lack of engagement with the content itself”

“I welcome the critiques, if they’re actually critiquing the meat and potatoes of the art.. issue I’m having is ppl not being able to identify what the meal is nor can than explain what it tastes like”

I don’t understand why that’s soo difficult to discern in the text?

The illiterates are proving your point lmao

I mean I’d figured the lil pocket forums were the last line of defense for genuine discussion but the freestyle thread is nauseating to say the least.

“ Lyricism and writing is something that can really grow with time, it’s not like a physical sport where you have a clearly defined peak.” -

never thought about it like that tbh .. I think of aging performing artists with my singer brain.. it gets hard to sing in the upper extremities with the same ease/freedkm .. start getting a lil sluggish with the agility and runs, certain limitations start to manifest after 40 for most vocal fachs

I guess this limits emcees a lot less, due to there being a different focus

I think with emceeing you only get better with time as you are basically practicing scheme repetition to the point you end up discovering tighter pockets within combinations of words you were already used to saying. why I think writing is important and why it was dope to hear Dot writes the same way as me: come up with the words first then build everything around it

it’s like an artist doing a slowed down or alternative rendition of their song but you can hardly even tell outside of the background sounds that have been chosen. same words, same flow/cadence, but a tighter pockets has been found where when you listen closely they might be elongating the ends of a word or emphasizing a different aspect of the verse despite it being literally the exact same song, and the result is an entirely new feeling supported by the change in sound

I feel like with the limits you said, it gets harder as a singer cause you can’t recreate a pitch your voice can no longer reach or sink down into, therefore clearly defining a peak

Literacy in general is at an all time low. Lotta these gen z & alpha kids legit cannot read, or count change out properly.

Hmm. Okay don’t project .. lol
It’s never that deep, just a observation about the state of where we are in music

All your posts so far comes off as I’m making a personal indictment against you.
    It’s just music discussion bubs

*I come in peace, I swear loll

In tune with your original topic, most criticisms calling out rap fandom or rap in general get danced around with some deflection that tries to invalidate the original criticism

It’s the new(ish) form of trying to not sound like a cliche old head while not being able to completely disagree with the criticism lmao

  • JeffersonSteelflex

Ngl it started with the new ATL dominating in the mid 2010s. What happened was then the major guys started to bite their swag (Kanye, Drake, etc)

While iconic, that 2016 XXL freshman list really did damage to hip hop lmaoo

    This

And you were calling a hating old nigga if you criticized this at any point in the process so we collectively just had to sit back and let it happen

This is both Kanye and drake’s worst indictment during their era of rap when they were the ones who took us from many of the cliches in rap in the 2000s

The dichotomy of innovating vs trying not to lose your “spot”

  • babylon sherm

A lot of guys here needed “bills in their face no wonder they’re ducking Drake” explained to them like it was The DaVinci Code

Yo like the bird. That;s wild

niggas talking 10 years ago the dudes y’all put on a pedestal aren’t potent enough examples to effect the trajectory of music in the here and now, even with the numbers

  • Fivi

loving this angle of if you didn't think the freestyle was all that then you ain't a true hiphop fan lmao

    Found one of the illiterates

  • i've seen the same people who purposefully misconstrue drake bars to downplay it cry that others are not interested in Jay's slam poetry raps. lets be honest, its not about literacy, its about which side you're on. and jay does not have enough cultural capital to be dissing drake, nicki, and kanye without a beat while looking like eazy-e on stage
